ELO were amazing imo, and the crowd seemed to be really into it where we were stood 🤷🏻

But I think maybe a shared legends slot is the way forward, with two shorter sets.

I'm a huge ELO fan, and seeing them at the 02 a year or two before Glasto was a dream come true. Jeff's backing band (also Take That's backing band for many years) are an outstanding set of musicians, and you couldn't fault the musicianship at all. But, the conditions that year had drained the crowds energy by the Sunday afternoon and Jeff just didn't have the stage presence required to lift people out of that slumber. Maybe it was just where I was. We were fairly close on the right hand side, people were enjoying it, but fairly lethargic.

However, their Wembley Stadium show recorded a week or two later was absolutely outstanding! Crowd going mental, incredible carefree, Dad dancing in the crowd the entire gig (in fact the gig is worth watching for that alone!) The banging atmosphere is palpable and very similar to a Legend Slot slot at Glasto (The 30 degree heat and an audience who have clearly been on the sauce all day also helped with that I'm sure!) I know it's different as it was 80k ELO fans rather than casual festival fans, but that was what I was hoping for at Glasto.

So..

I've been trying to compile a pseudo definitive list of Legends Slot contenders and I've reached a point where I'm prepared to share it.

This list contains everyone I've seen seriously suggested on this and several other previous threads, or in the wider world, that meet the following criteria:

- Aged 50+ (record lowest to date is Kylie at 51)
- Minimum 30 year career (record lowest to date is Al Green, at 33)
- Solo, or solo-led acts only (as per precedent)
- Hasn't done The Legends Slot before
- If they have previously played the festival, it was a while ago (only exception to date being Ray Davies in 2010)

So my questions - from this list, what names have I missed? Are there any retirements or deaths I've missed? Or any other notes that should be added as to why someone is more or less likely than others?

I shouldn't need to clarify this, but obviously inclusion here is in no way an endorsement on my part, so I'm not interested in arguing the case over acts being too small or not suitable.

And yet, still way more likely than Kenny Loggins.

Not suggesting he's likely, just that he was suggested previously and fits the criteria. Beyond that I'm not curating.

If there was precedent for bands, I'd add bands.

I think to qualify for the Legend Slot it would have to be someone you'd recognise if you walked by them in the street.

I'd argue there's plenty have done it that don't meet that criteria. Including a couple in the last 10 years.

Hell, I doubt many would recognise Shania if she was wearing street clothes.

Horses for courses, of course, but even of the non celeb A list ones (Cat Stevens, maybe. Isaac Hayes?)  I can still conjure up a visual of what they look like.

For Loggins I got nothing.

Again:

"I shouldn't need to clarify this, but obviously inclusion here is in no way an endorsement on my part, so I'm not interested in arguing the case over acts being too small or not suitable."

I don't think he's likely. I don't think he's going to be considered. But in an effort to avoid letting my personal preferences sway things, he gets included because I saw his name suggested somewhere.

Nice list. I think James Taylor could be on it, though not exactly party vibes. Don McLean too, maybe - with the added benefit that his most famous song would also take him most of his hour to perform. Roger Waters should have "problematic" in his notes, probably in bold and capital letters.

Cheers for that - will add both of those on the next version. And fair point about RW, that alone is probably enough to ensure he doesn't play especially at the moment.
