gfa
Given they had Pulp sub who sold finsbury in a similar amount of time, getting Fontaines in seems as like for like as you could possibly get
DomDom1984
Pulp headlined. But they also had the sort of history which means it wasn't much of a punt. Especially with Ezra behind them. I don't see the same chance getting taken on Fontaines DC. DF aren't exactly known for that. They haven't sold out the Hydro show yet. If they had, there'd have been a chance. NorthernSoul52
Fontaines in a nice meaty sub slot feels right if they want to play north of the border next summer. This being said, Hydro shows can sell weird. I remember at the start of 2023, it was the only place that The 1975 didn't sell out in a flash, and then they were suddenly back for TRNSMT a few months later too. Chiefski
Too many acts play the Hydro when they shouldn't be yet, IMO
DomDom1984
Fontaines DC haven't done a bad job btw. They're not far off. Definitely enough to justify being there.

I recall re that hydro show - all the other shows are sold out. no chance, its a huge mistake not a punt if they can't even sell the hydro out (its not even close, there was still standing a few days ago - possibly still is now) 16 hours ago, Chiefski said: Too many acts play the Hydro when they shouldn't be yet, IMO All their other arena shows are sold out tbf - and Finsbury too etc Trailing in popularity in Scotland it seems for whatever reason
NorthernSoul52
What actually is the next biggest venue in Glasgow after the Hydro? How does it compare in terms of size?

How does it compare in terms of size? I believe it would be the O2 Academy which is around 2500 vs over 14k at the Hydro. You have the O2 Academy in Edinburgh which is around 3000 but there's a real need for a midsize arena in Scotland to accommodate those acts that aren't quite ready for that step up to full arenas. An advantage to the Hydro - at least, I guess it is one - is that the design, like the First Direct Arena in Leeds, allows you to curtain huge swathes off and still give the appearance of a full house. If you look at the photos from Sum 41's socials on their tour opener in Leeds, it looks deceptively full, despite the fact it was probably only about 7,000, with the top tier fully off-limits. But I fully concur. More 5,000 to 6,000 capacity venues needed.

DomDom1984
Fontaines definitely had sold out standing when I checked. And seats were fairly limited. They're definitely worthy of playing these venues.
NorthernSoul52
More 6,000 capacity arenas for the nation! Cannot remember how large the ill-fated Bradford Live is meant to be.
DomDom1984
The SEC does get used now and again still but it's rare. That'd be close to your mid sized arena. I think the big hall used to be 8-9k.

NorthernSoul52
Fontaines D.C. and Chase and Status famously never seen in the same room, a bit like Banksy and the lad from Massive Attack.

NorthernSoul52
I think Edinburgh could do with a venue for such competition. Usher Hall gets a few good things through, but it'd be nice to see them just get an arena in some shape. To say it is the same size as Manchester Apollo, Hull's Connexion Live - formerly the Bonus Arena - does get its share of decent names out that way. Burritomancer
Judging by some of the acts that are touring the festival circuit I reckon that The Prodigy, The Script, Travis, TLDP, Lathums, Pixie Lott and Texas have a high chance of showing up.
NorthernSoul52
The Script would be one of those whose robust arena sales suggest they should headline, but will inevitably end up propping somebody else up. (I wager. I've been wrong a lot when wagering.)
DomDom1984
The Script will sub. T loved them subbing and they've done TRNSMT too. I've been pretty sure about that one for a while. Was thinking about Travis being a solid 3rd from top. Not sure about The Prodigy and think Texas might do Edinburgh.
NorthernSoul52
Seems logical. Texas in Edinburgh feels like a good shout.
LeithRichards
Anyone heard Noah Kanah being considered for TRNSMT? With him playing Hyde Park the week before (I think?!) TRNSMT
DomDom1984
I wouldn't be surprised to see him there but I don't think we will. Don't think there's often overlap with BST.
