Well, if Biffy and Shikari are ruled out, that changes things. We know theres a wildcard, and we know theres a "top 5 dream headliner".

Alexisonfire/AFI

Amyl and the Sniffers/Kneecap

... Weezer?

Honestly theres a lot of bands that cover a lot of these bases. I could see the dream band being Deftones, Weezer, Gallows reunion, etc. The wildcard could be anything from Kneecap to Knocked Loose.

f**k imagine Trees getting Weezer over Download. To be honest they are probably the right size to play it with Trees evolving but they don't co-headline with anyone.

Would find it a bit strange for Kneecap to take a co-headline spot over The Hives. Seen lots of predictions with Kneecap, but are they actually big enough? I get that they have major momentum behind them at the moment, so can see how that would be a consideration

(Also would love the Andrew W.K. pick)

They aren't. But are clearly liked by Trees, I'd be a bit peeved to be co-headlining with them if I was any of the touted other headliners

Their upcoming tour is similar in size to what Hot Mulligan did before headlining the Axiom this year

I've gone for Kneecap for the out there headliner that James mentioned on the pod more than anything.

To be fair they've sold out all but 1 date of the tour and got 2 nights at Kentish Town so quite a big tour.

Think Rise Against are the sort who could be in the conversation, but for whatever reason, are not.

We're at the point now where all we know is that its not Shikari, its not Biffy, and its, according to James, one of the best bookings he's ever made. Its down to interpretation but i think Rise Against are absolutely in that convo. I cant remember the exact words, but there was something about the booking being in excess of 100k. Theres a lot of possibility there... Rise Against, Deftones, Weezer, Placebo, Alexisonfire, The Offspring, Knocked Loose, Turnstile... Gallows with Frank now that he's called the Rattlesnakes a day... Letlive? Who bloody knows. Wait and watch us get completely blindsided by it being something like AFI and a Lower Than Atlantis reunion or something daft.

Any chance of a band like Rise Against?

Yes

They definitely should be and one I missed, they only get booked for 4th down Download for example and didn't pull a mad crowd last time either I don't believe...I was quite far forward. It was actually quite disappointing compared to their own tour. The fact they've only booked Manchester Victoria Warehouse so far in England in February which actually seems to be inaccessible after appearing before.

It's not going to be Detones or The Offspring and I think Gallows would sub.

I reckon you're looking at AOF, AFI, Rise Against, Amyl and one other. I'm not sure what makes Kneecap suddenly big enough but I'll go with them. I think AOF as one of the best bookings he's made. I think only Shikari and B4MV would be classed as bookings the festival have made that would be 3rd down bookings at Download as a similar style of music. I'm surprised AOF made 3rd and reckon they probably were the act to bring to cost down and little. Some acts especially over 4 days have to maybe play thag slot high as long as it's not into the very too slots and I think this was a case but given they did it puts them in this. You can see though that booking Bullet for them did cause in my view them to booking a weaker undercard for it that day. To be honest just generally been better Trees lineups than 2023.

Rise Against+AFI

Amyl + Knee Cap

AOF

I think Amyl selling out Ally Pally well will stop them needing of of the above. I'm not overall your main trees attendee but if they booked that top two I'll definitely going even if just for the evening as for the usual around £36/40 that would be mad value, though I don't see how they'll justify less than £45/50 even for evening entry this year. Would expect day tickets to be around £80/90 but an undercard for that Thursday to suffer a bit. I wasn't even charged parking last time I went either which was a bonus and hung in the car until early hours to leave.

Brixton and Birmingham also for rise against

I think with Brixton, Birmingham, Manchester and Belfast end of Jan into February that puts them well in the frame. The only doubt is Birmingham which is only up the road but so is Bristol only down it and B4MV did both in March the year they headlined, the bigger band but I think RA are in.

Think those are spot on but I reckon Feeder or Placebo instead of Rise Against. I don't think they'd have Rise Against have a tour announcement/on sale at basically the same time as the line up drop next week.

Do you know what that was in my thoughts before I typed it I thought would announcing this now not be odd with that coming up so I agree given they are announcing all 5 are coming and take back my locking them in. They would more than liokely be announced much earlier this year for it. That does put a return to Download in the picture though only doing Birmingham in the midlands, unless Reading go with Rise Against, Papa Roach on a Linkin Park day. I don't think Feeder are big enough for this though, they could sub this now. Placebo could though.
