How would they pull off Deftones if Letlive were too expensive?

I feel like Deftones are to Trees as Mogwai are to ATG. James is willing to splash out beyond his budget if he feels he cant get that band at that festival. For the sake of argument lets say Letlive. are charging 120k for a subheadline or headline spot. Theres a premium on them even thoigh they never headlined massive UK shows in their prime, so even if they look great on the lineup, they aren't worth 120k in sales. Deftones on the other hand, are a guaranteed seller, so say the expected price for a headliner that size is 250k (pulling these numbers out my arse), James may be willing to splash 400k on them to lock them down because they will shift day and weekend tickets, and the general consensus is that they make the lineup look good as a whole.

I don’t know how much Deftones would cost these days. Doing massive arenas in America next year but they rarely tour here so ticket sales are unknown. Not sure what size venue they would play here anymore. But yeah, they know if they get Deftones the festival would sell out completely so it allows you to plan financially.

Deftones are much bigger in the states and headline festivals there, they won't be doing that here.

Don't know why but I see Biffy as more likely for Trees than Deftones, even though Biffy are arguably the bigger band in the UK.

Biffy won't be doing Trees yet.

Bare in mind im 30 so im not exactly using the platform, but they supposedly had a bit of a resurgence thanks to a lot of their songs being used on TikTok (apparently thats how kids find music now), youtube shorts and IG reels. Kinda like how Limp Bizkit and Creed have a new generation of audience by becoming a meme? Idk, i feel like what im saying makes sense.

Yeah they are massive on tik tok and the younger generation. They have 4m more monthly listeners on Spotify than QOTSA who headlined download and did an arena tour. Doesn’t always translate to ticket sales but just to give you an idea on streaming popularity. Could they do arenas in the UK? If so they’re too big for Trees.

Idk if they could do arenas, but its hard to guess when its been so long. Personally i think they would just sell out an academy tour, but i wouldnt be surprised if they could also step up to arenas.

they did wembley arena a few years back but it was the only gig (alongside download) so would have sold well on that, not sure if they would be big enough for a full arena run like though, defintely an ally pally selly outter tough

It's fun and fascinating to try and balance sizes and ideas.

I love The Gaslight Anthem, for example, but I think they've shot themselves in the foot since they came back wanting forty quid plus fees for a gig that can be sometimes as short as eighty minutes, depending what Brian's in the mood for. I was surprised they didn't make an effort to drop prices after the debacle of a half-empty Wembley Arena.

Yeah its difficult to know how much involvement bands are having in ticket prices, on the one had you have Paul Heaton who seems to be championing affordability and doing some great things and then you have Oasis who seem like they didnt have any involvement what so ever

The Gallaghers are well documented saying that if they were to get back together they’d be doing it for the money. The fact that they wouldn’t have been involved in any money conversation is absolutely ridiculous.

Robert Smith seems pretty sure bands have the power to stop surge pricing, but it's not in their interests.

Iron Maiden haven't got surge pricing. Enter Shikari don't use it.

The Cure, Yungblud, Iron Maiden, Enter Shikari, Paul Heaton & Coldplay have proven that you don’t have to have surge pricing. Rou from Enter Shikari even confirmed as much during the Oasis situation.

its the level of involvement when it comes to ticket prices though, the involvement they had could have "we are going to pay you X amount to reform" and thats it,

I don’t think you should be covering for the Gallaghers. If they didn’t ask prices that’s on them and then the blame game was played after. They could’ve easily u turned the decision like when Robert Smith took on Ticketmaster to refund his fans after fees were added and fans complaining in the US. It just shows they’re either extremely naive and/or don’t care about their fans.

Iron Maiden's pricing was frankly daft though, especially when compared to the continent. Rod obviously did his work though - they all shifted in the end.

To be honest the more time goes the more I'm considering just offloading my ticket next year as I just don't believe it's worth the cost etc. Yes I spent ages getting it but I think that was more a case of being committed and what's the point of stopping now.

I'm sure there's an oasis tour thread where you can talk about how the money grabbing knobs "didn't know" about dynamic pricing somewhere on here.

They're not playing Trees, I don't reckon

never know, could be the wildcard

Was lucky enough to get Oasis, and think I'll stick with it now. But do understand why people are less keen now.

It's fair to say that dickie being apparently supoort changes my mind lol. Getting him at Coventry this year for £12 is the best value gig I'm probably ever going to get. To be honest Slam Dunk for £4.50 is up there and so way Field Day for £15.
