You're meant to stick to one tab!! rule breaker

I also refer you to my earlier comment re the chasm of difference....................... suprised you are here though given how 'woke' you thought elements of this years festival was and how 'white' it is with reference to a post you made re the Idles set.

The "hacks" and "gaming of the system" are always going to happen to a degree, and as others have pointed out technically using multiple devices/tabs (which I think everybody on this forum did) is also against the spirit of the rules. In fact, my biggest frustration now is that I was too naive and bought into the idea that the bot detection systems were going to be really strong. Ran a pitiful 3 devices in coach, and 4 in general sale. Should have gone for 50+ tabs instead like others, but I listened to the festival too much and believed them that I'd get dinged for trying to "hack" my way around, and my result was zero tickets.

Glasonbury is the whitest and most middle class place in the world these days. Are you honestly claiming otherwise?

And yeah the idles set rubber dinghy thing I did not like. You got an issue with that?

I refer you to my earlier comment about a chasm of difference between such things and the simple gaming of  asystem to get around the queue.

and your reply is exactly what I knew would come - but I was honest in what I wrote. A shame hinesty is not aloive in many round here.

Yes, but Glastonbury Festival told us specifically not to do that.  They never told people not to edit the hosts file on their computer, ie "the hack".  Facetious I know but its all "gaming".

There would be ways around this

Absolutely. Just as there were ways around it with the new system. Unfortunately no system will ever be completely fair. People will always miss out due to demand.

Emily has previously stated that the old system was the fairest it could be and it's hard to argue with that if they had just closed the host hack that available to some. I don't think Gfl would have particularly wanted a change to the old system but as has been said recently it will have been mostly a See decision. (obviously with Gfl's blessing). I strongly suspect it will change again for the 2027 festival.

We got tickets. One laptop each, one phone.
Two windows on one laptop, one on phone and laptop.

Not a bit of bitterness at all = just chunks of being pissed off seeing so many gaming the system whilst seemingly 'getting' what GF is all about.

To me it's about getting a ticket to the festival.

people might not like my balance of what I feel acceptable but thats all it is is and  what I feel is right .... theres no absolutes ive gamed the system potentially in my own way by being on a spreadsheet and having 4 devices running 1 window on all but 2 and 2 on other . but ultimately im tired by having to up this each year and each sale its getting worse at what point does it stop  ?do we need 1000 windows open next year ? at what point does it get too much ?

Each to their own I guess, hacking the system seems morally wrong on all counts. Even having 75 computers at work with 800 connections seems on another level than having a couple of mates join the queue for you.

For the record, I got thru on my mobile in the coach sale. No trickery!

Wasn't the "spirit" of the festival to allow people to jump the fence as long as possible, only stopping when the licence was under threat?

This is mild by comparison and much less dangerous.

Everyone seems to have their own fixed idea of how it should be run. Tbh we don't get a say, we just do out best to be there one way or another. Sometimes we win sometimes we lose.

I used a tonne of browser windows and got lucky with one. Being in a place to worry  about whether I did right or wrong is a sign of a privileged life (and no that's not a bad thing, just trying to put some perspective on things)

Also there is absolutely no chance ‘they’ are reading forums/reddit etc. for information. If the ‘they’ is individuals working directly for the festival I’m sure they have little to no say in the technical side of the sale, apart from maybe EE herself who I’m sure has a lot more on her plate. Or if the ‘they’ is people working for See Tickets, or Queue-It, they’ll already be aware of loopholes in their system, and either can’t or won’t do anything about it - for whatever reason.

There is at least one, 2 I believe that pretty much work most of the year for GFEL on the ticketing side of things, one is a friend of mine.

Also the systems See use have had its faults away back as long as at least 2009/10 when you could edit the page source and go in and buy tickets, even out with the sale period.... people find exploits all the time.. it will continue to happen

or is it OK to game the system if it benefits you?

Just not comparable but I see where you're coming from

I feel like this is it. I’m fairly tech savvy but not as much as others, but it feels like the map is being redrawn in a way that is just unnecessarily opaque and confusing for the majority of people. It’s a contemporary arts festival. It should be as fair as a level playing field for as many people as possible. It really shouldn’t be this difficult to get a ticket and on the surface of it, this new system seemed much fairer and lots of people seemed to have success when they previously didn’t. But now that this information is out, the intervening years will just become needlessly complex.

I hate the idea of a ballot but at this point it is the fairest way of doing the whole thing otherwise Glastonbury will become an exclusive event when the whole ethos of the festival is that everyone is welcome. That’s what makes the festival so special. It’s not having a membership to Soho House, ffs.

It's always going to be this difficult to get a ticket when the demand is 10 times greater than the available tickets.

I jibbed in this year. Twice if being particularly pedantic about it (don't ask)

Would love to know how deep to hell that would put me in some of your eyes 😂

tbf you seem to be arguing against yourself here. Don't think anyone really cares.

Why did you sneak in when every mod on the discord could easily have got legit tickets via the hack lol, seems unnecessary

Yes, it was, but we’re now in 2024 where we have access to highly sophisticated data that shows the danger of climate change. I don’t believe for a second that it’s the sign of a privileged life to worry about whether you’re doing something right or wrong - it’s open to the majority of people (and certainly average Glasto punter) to take advantage of the data they have at their fingertips. There is a deep irony here in that one of the most accepted facts of getting tickets for the festival is to have multiple devices running at the same time despite the messaging from the festival itself.

I recognise the irony here in that people have access to all of this data about how to game the Glastonbury ticket system, but really, it’s misplaced energy and it’s stupid for the festival to allow it to keep happening. There are bigger things to worry about and you literally just stand in the middle of the festival, look around, and see all the signs of the things that the festival wants you to be worried about.

In 20 years, unless there’s a rapid escalation in green technology and governments allowing that tech and companies to take root, the festival will be part of the history books. How is a giant week long festival even remotely sustainable when we’re living in the world we’re living in? It’s in the spirit of Michael Eavis to allow fence jumpers, but it’s very much in the spirit of the family and the festival to turn around and call time in recognition of how it’s no longer sustainable.

I don’t think we’re far off seeing the first glimmers of that starting to happen in the U.K. and across the world.

How have you managed to find a link there? Is it because both involve people breaking rules?

Take that to its logical conclusion and everybody who is fine with gaming the system to get tickets is also fine with murder.

My record since 2015 is 6 success and two fail. I worked one of the years I failed. I always try for both coach, and then main, and both again in resale if required. Prior to this year, I’ve typically had 8 or 9 people trying on my behalf, using multiple tabs and devices.

This year, I (perhaps foolishly) was a bit concerned around the multiple tabs thing, so had 8 people, spread across 4 locations, each using more than one device (so perhaps around 16-20 devices). Only got through on one. However, you only need to be lucky once.

My own experience would suggest both the old, and the new systems are reasonably fair. If you are dedicated, you are usually ok. But maybe I’ve been particularly lucky, I don’t know. I feel for those who missed out though, it’s a horrible feeling…. My advice would be to work there. It’s not the same, but still very worthwhile.

I think this conversation would be best over a pint (can I suggest late June!)
