In terms of pleasant surprises, Kneecap were great fun last year, and their humour and irony much more evident live.
Allvays were on my maybe list last year, and after walking up to Shania after James after I decided to carry walking and was glad I did. They were perfect on a tired Sunday afternoon and I've since picked up some of their stuff on vinyl.
May sound an odd one but I'm almost certain I'd not have gone to Coldplay if it wasn't for my wife wanting to but surprised myself re how much I enjoyed them - granted it was more of a 'show' in my eyes but I was taken aback by the whole thing tbh (well for the first hour or so and the last half hour or so (I thought it went a wee bit odd in the middle).
And while a huge fan, and not a surprise last yr as such, but have always been amazed at how good LCD Soundsystem are live. Something special about a band I have huge expectations for surprising me as to how good they can be live at festivals.

It’s got a selection of big names which would rival any recent Download, so the price for a standing ticket isn’t surprising.
The only thing putting me off getting in the queue for tickets is the format, I don’t want to watch those bands playing 30 minute sets. I can’t imagine they would get any longer than that.
Well last years Sunday had LCD Soundsystem, PJ Harvey and The Smile as headliners on the same day..
(albeit The Smile end up cancelling and replaced by Pixies but you get my point).
