Amazing. My first Muse gig (and first ever gig) was Birmingham NEC 2003 followed by both Earls Court shows. Such great times. I still have the poster for that Absolution UK arena tour. Tickets were £14!!!

Anyone who went to that tour some 24 years on must see that as extraordinary value for money, not least given Muse & Coldplay have spent years playing venues that charge £8 a drink.

I was there after seeing muse support skink anansie at Pompey guildhall the year before!

All a very long time before my first Muse show, which was at London O2 in November 2009.

 

Indeed that 1999 show with Skunk Anansie was probably before the Dome that now houses the O2 even opened.

That would be cool tbf. I mean, the Cydonia in Knights of Cydonia is a region of Mars that contains rock formations some conspiracy types think look like pyramids, so would feel like the closest to imagine playing a gig in Cydonia.

Flaming Lips are hardly major anymore whereas KOL headlined R&L only a few years back

I saw KOL at BST this summer and they was fantastic.Ive followed them since 2004 and I’ve never seen one bad show an absolute stonking booking imo.Such a tight fantastic band and in for one am overjoyed

The ‘biggest’ headliner has tended to play the Sunday at victorious. I am starting to get the feeling we won’t see pulp and they will be added to board masters.

Venue and swimming pool, always a bit weird going to a gig that stunk of chlorine 😂

 

Sadly closed as a venue (and a pool) now.

I might be making this up, but I'm certain a long, long time ago there was a rumour they could play by the pyramids....

Matt Bellamy himself told The Times he'd like to do a gig there.

 

Feel like a big name US rock band has played there before tbf. Chili Peppers or Metallica perhaps?

They had a bit of a hit-and-miss reputation as a live act but I've thought they were good on the 3 times I've seen them, including the first show of their UK tour in Leeds back in June.

Personally no interest in KOL.. was really hoping for florence but with KOL as such a large booking, I can forget about this now.

Best gig I went to there was arctic monkeys before release of album and bet you look good on dance floor £8.

Whether you like KOL or not it's huge step forward for the festival, obviously getting a non-uk act but more importantly an act that is still big enough to headline BST. As much as we talk about Mumford & Biffy being big acts in recent years neither of them are currently considered BST size.

 

Obviosuly, if you don't like Kings of Leon the fact they are a big signing is pretty meaningless and not going to tempt you to buy a ticket. However, it does look like they are aiming higher and trying to grow the festival and in the future they may have a bigger pool then the smaller Superstruct festivals.

Kings of Leon is an absolutely massive booking for Victorious. New album is outstanding too, back on form for sure.

It will be interesting to see who the other 2 headliners are. A lot of people who live locally only do 1 day of Victorious. When Mumford headlined the increase in numbers on that day was noticeable.

 

It may well turn out the same with KOL

 

(And whilst we are mentioning headliners / potential headliners playing smaller Portsmouth venues, Mumford once played The Cellars pub in Southsea (now RIP) and Pulp supported St Etienne on the pier.

Fair play with Green Day. Robbie was dire. 😂

By this I meant the kind of… quality/level of acts? So IoW used to have line ups like the Chilis/Kings of Leon etc and now it’s like Justin Timberlake and The Corrs. So more nostalgic cheese? Granted Green Day could be counted in that but I feel like they are still “cooler”.
