Had seen her three times and that was the best. Caribou has always put on a good show when I've seen him too, and although I've not been a big FJM fan in the past I have given the new album a go and it has some good tunes on it. Self Esteem I can take or leave but imagine that'll still be a good show! I'm not upset about an early announcement - think a first batch and knowing more will follow is still pretty fun. Looking forward to it! not sure where you got those names from

emmanuel
Quite disappointed I must say. It is a bit like 2 years ago where it is 8 bands I've seen but had already concluded I don't need to see them again. Only exception is Self Esteem which I thought was good. Maybe the next announcement will reserve a few Supersonic bands that are more surprising.
carrierbagman
Happy with FJM and SVE as headliners but could see how people might be a little disappointed with it. Personally think the undercard is a little weak at this point so hoping some good names get added, and I'm sure they will. I'm not a fan of that Geordie Greep album and feels like BCNR mustve played every UK festival for about the last 5 years so will feel a bit shortchanged if they get a Garden headline spot... accordionandvoice
got to say i think these headliners are awful. not a tune between them. who on earth hunkers down for a sharon van etten headline set? stinking. *caribou is good john maus, these new puritans, mohammed syfkhan all good bookings. hoping theres more good stuff to come. sjseabass
While perhaps not the most adventurous set of headliners, nor particularly difficult to catch on tour, in terms of what me and my group of mates enjoy they are absolutely perfect. We’ll all be getting tickets very soon. I will not hear this Sharon Van Etten slander. Her Glasto set in 2019 knocked the socks off me and everyone else in the tent, my top highlight of the festival. Very much looking forward to seeing what she does with a headline set.
accordionandvoice
obviously its subjective and i have my feelings that are not gonna be shared. but i do think a headliner has to be widely popular or appealing, with recognisable tunes or at least the ability to put on a show. i dont particularly like vampire weekend but their headline show in 2018 was phenomenal. could 25% of eotr ticket holders name a sharon van etten song? zahidf
Im happy with the headliners. SVE is the Thursday headliner, and her new songs sound very good, so im sure she'll put in a great show Caribou and Self Esteem normally have upbeat songs, and im sure will be a lot of fun as always. FJM has headlined before and went down well.

I sighed audibly when I saw BCNR on the lineup. Overfamiliarity breeds contempt.

She is very much a similar size (or bigger) to many previous headliners. Sleaford Mods, anyone? Her last album was top 10 in the States and she is critically acclaimed. And I don't think being able to name a song is a great metric. I follow music very closely but each year there's always one headliner where I would fail on this test (even though I've usually heard their music). paulwa
Sharon van Etten is quality and puts on a great show. She will be fantastic. I wasn't bothered with FJM before he last played and that was hugely entertaining, hopefully you will find the same with SvE.
Justiceforcedave
Sharon Van Etten best out of the four for me!
noisenoiseandmorenoise
SvE is by far the best thing about the top part of this line up. Disappointed festivals are giving space to John Maus. Even ignoring the politics (and we shouldn't) the live show hasn't evolved in a decade. Fundamentally though I'm confused at the decision to announce this so early. accordionandvoice
Heh, maybe I was wrong about SVE. Guess she's bigger than I'd thought. Not sure how Self Esteem is headlining a festival of this size, mind. FJM feels like the only guaranteed headline-sized one out of the four. xxialac
Really confused as to why such an early announcement. Suggests they might need the money in the bank now?!

Suggests they might need the money in the bank now?! They're on the final tier already (in fact they might have crossed into it after the announcement), they can't need a ticket sales push right now. Best I can come up with otherwise is it's part of the FJM tour rollout, what with his regular dates announced on Tuesday and Moseley Folk Festival yesterday. Being told to announce early might explain why there's so little depth, as in everyone announced you'd expect to be late afternoon at least on Woods/Garden or up at/near the top of Big Top. Of course, it might equally be that Simon was spooked by how long it took last year to sell out. Hooskerdoo
It's OK. As a first announcement it's not a patch on this year, but already a lot better than 2023. Pretty safe and uninspiring for me. It's just the start though.
Punksnotdead
I can't make next year's Festival due to family commitments. I have to say this first announcement made me much happier to miss it - no FOMO for me (so far). None of the headliners grab me - don't hate any of them but don't love them. A few lower down I'd have loved - Lisa O'Neill, These new Puritans & Throwing Muses, but I can live with missing them. I'll definitely be back in 2026 for the 20th anniversary, health & wealth permitting - it will quite possibly my last ever festival.
emmanuel
I certainly don't agree with this metric of having known songs or danceable songs! There has to be festivals, and hopefully EOTR is one of them, that cater to people who can appreciate a few more nuances in music. Here it is just that I've seen Caribou, Goat, Sharon Van Etten, Tropical f**k Storm, Father John Misty, Black Country, New Road and a few others as openers or on small festival stages between ~2006 and 2019? Are they all better now? I must say I have no memory at all of being impressed back then. Edited 4 hours ago by emmanuel

On this lineup, I thought Self Esteem was very good the first time I saw in 2022. There are 7 names on the poster I haven't seen so I wouldn't known.
