The former probably have released the best album of the year and were too low headlining the park, plus the album wasn’t out when they played this year. I like Fontaines a lot on record but they're not very inspiring live and aside from the lead single I think Romance is a dissapointment and their worst album. I appreciate they've tried a different sound for them though. They'd do brilliant to take a pyramid sub slot and would be silly to turn it down. They might have little experience of headlining, but they proved they were ready for it on both occasions. You try telling Yamal's manager he's not playing in the Euro semifinal and see where that logic gets you... I didn't go for IDLES (couldn't get time off, i'd have watched them otherwise - and i have seen them before) That's fair enough - they put in a good show, but you can do that and still be overbilled! NorthernSoul52
So, Fontaines have a Manchester show in the calendar for next summer now too. My mate just used the word "zeitgeist" to describe booking them two years on the trot, but I'm sorry, it's just a bit dull. Understand that if '26 is the fallow year, then this is a "strike while the iron is hot" type of situation. But just a bit of a shrug from me. wro_lap
Fontaines are one of my favourite bands, but I hope they don't do Glastonbury next year. Would be the fourth time in five festivals, which just cheapens them a bit imo. Get them back in 2027 in a big slot on the Pyramid, with a totally different set to this year's Park set. I love them, but it would be an objectively poor booking to give them big slots two years running
glimmers_of_hope
I do sort of get the argument of not having a band play 4 out 5 festivals. They are continuing to release new music and ascending the slots. They are one of the more interesting big mainstream indie acts and on a hot streak. I would much rather they had a shot at a big pyramid slot than a nostalgia act, someone who is past it, someone who is promoting a crap album. 1

I dunno, some downright irritating songs like Here The Thing and some snoozers in the middle drag it down a bit. Still decent, but give me Skinty Fia everyday. MJ Lenderman, Magdalena Bay and that The Smile's Cutouts are my 3 favs of the year so far.
Justcalledtosay
I never got away with Skinty Fia like some. Still a good album mind.
Ben7amin_
BICEP are announced for a festival in AUS in February as Croma DJ set - looks like they are gonna carry on with this - No idea if it will be solo or if Matt will be back I suspect that this makes them less likely for a live return - As far as im aware the new album is ready but i suspect its release has been put back while Matt makes a full recovery. So they can anounce it with some live shows Edited October 9 by Ben7amin_

mufcok
Fontaines update - being led to believe they've opted not to take the slot. Couldn't say for sure, but I suspect it's right. I will be able to confirm 100%, but likely not until the start of December. Just thought I'd provide an update, based on what I've been told (original post was always with the caveat that they were undecided). 1

I think that makes Biffy Clyro, Jack White, Yungblud, Nick Cave, Charli Xcx, C&S and Catfish most likely for a mix of Pyramid subs and Other headliners. If I had to pick I'd say Jack, Yungblud and Biffy for Pyramid. I reckon it's either Catfish or Charli depending on if Catfish are allowed to play Glastonbury as well and if Charli is a Reading exclusive. Tbf, based on last years shock I’d say nobody can predict them this year. Yungblud was also a shock too to most. Little Simz, LCD and Burna Boy came really out of nowhere
