Benjsh
LCD were better than all 3 Pyramid headliners for me but then they are one of my all time favourite groups so I would say that. Still think their 2016 headline slot takes the top prize though. That was a special special night.

I would say Simzy & LCD were much better than the actual headliners. For me anyway Edited October 14 by Ben7amin_

Couldn't say for sure, but I suspect it's right. I will be able to confirm 100%, but likely not until the start of December. Just thought I'd provide an update, based on what I've been told (original post was always with the caveat that they were undecided). Quite mad they didn't take it, probably the biggest slot they will ever get at glasto (can't see them making it all the way to be honest) At least we get Yungblud....... NorthernSoul52
I've got to say, it may have been helped by the headliner after them, but LCD Soundsystem and Little Simz both pulled far bigger crowds than I expected - and both knocked it out of the park. It was generally just a younger female fan base that were making a point of who was on from where I was.

It's quite ballsy, with the intention (I imagine) being to headline the whole thing. I think they should be taking it, personally, but then I'm a bit obsessed so I would say that selfishly

They can definitely just take it in 2027 i guess, unless they drop off massively somehow
CaledonianGonzo
Sounds like they expect to be headlining the whole thing by then....also in the camp that just doesn't see it. Not sure if they have sufficient crossover appeal.
Quark
Assumption of headliner or bust mentality from the band, but also possible that they're self-aware enough to recognise the risk of becoming viewed as a Glastonbury house band with 4 out of 5 recent festivals if they do next year (to @wro_lap's point) If it's the former then yeah, they might be overreaching. But the latter could well be good sense. If you're on the up you want to strike a balance between visibility and just being omnipresent and your shows being so common as to be unremarkable. 1
mufcok
I personally think Romance is the best thing I've heard for a few years. They'll need a follow up record that smashes it in the lead up to 2027 though, if they are to headline

Yeah see as a neutral why people would say take it but I also get why they would think playing that many time on the bounce without it being the top slot might just stop them at sub point. I think it's ballsy but they are probably overall doing the right thing whereby with another strong album it puts them directly in the headliner conversation. clasher
The way I read this is "we'll be on our next album/tour cycle in (around) 2027". That doesn't necessarily mean headline or bust, but they probably feel confident they'll be bigger then and rightly so.

I agree with you - can't see them getting the necessary crossover appeal at present
NorthernSoul52
I wouldn't rule Fontaines out, but with the arguable more pop-skewed pick of the headliners this year and seemingly next - nearest you get to a "rock" headliner is Coldplay or Rodrigo - I think they would face a fight to overhaul over guitar-leading artists. They're still well off the draw of a Sam Fender or a The 1975, for example.
wro_lap
How many times has someone gone from headlining a stage like Woodsies or The Park to headlining Other or subbing/headlining the Pyramid? Only examples I can think of are The National and Biffy Clyro, neither of whom got all the way
CaledonianGonzo
Stormzy did the run from bottom of the bill to toppermost of the poppermost.

Have the 1975 done a smaller stage headline - if they get booked then they would be one? The xx maybe? not checked. The dynamic of how acts grow has changed so much since covid that i'm not sure how much it matters. Is headlining woodsies / park that different to being booked for mid other and then going on to do it (ala Dua / Billie) People used to obsess about this kinda thing a lot, not seen it recently to be fair

Halsey would be class but reckon she’d be main stage sub for Fred. Gonna go Yungblud, Halsey & Jack White as pyramid subs and Chase & Status, Biffy Clyro & Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds as other headliners. Jack White isn't taking anything but Pyramid sub unless it's a secret set and he won't do secret set two times running. His ego is too high to play other in my option. I don't think your Other headliners will be far off. Biffy Clyro subbing and Halsey on Other I could easily see.

Yeah there’s a good few who started outside of the main stages then made it to the top. Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Adele, Florence, Dua Lipa (I think her first set was in Silver Hayes?). Rare that someone goes from headlining a stage to near the top though
