Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

I think my favourite Springsteen show has to be this one - because of the location. Bought the nugs.net CD of the night in 1984 a few years ago. Went on the off chance of getting a ticket on the night and paid well over the odds, $60, far more than I’d ever paid for any gig up to that point.

One of my top 3 Glastonbury moments! And that was BEFORE the big songs. The last hour or so of that gig was insane

Was indeed a moment. After Grohl appeared I assumed that was it - but when Macca said "And now from the *East* coast" (paraphrased) we went absolutely cray cray.

Yes, as if it wasn’t emotional enough watching Macca, to have Bruce on as a guest was a real tear in the eye moment for me. One of those greatest Glastonbury moments.

Same! As soon as he said east coast I was jumping around like a madman, with nobody I was with having a clue why until he actually was announced on stage. Id seen that had happened a few weeks before in New York and knew exactly where it was going!

But he was old then, and fifteen years have passed, and the venue wouldn't be Glasto. Plus I'd be hundreds of pounds down. Sometimes you've just got to play the odds. I've made the same mistake a few times, looking for the glory days (yeah, I know). Neil Young and Bob Dylan at BST is a good example.

I do hope we see him again in Europe beyond next year, but do fear that the whole enterprise might get slimmed down after 2025.

Next year will be three summers im Europe on the bounce.  Won't begrudge him a break by that point.

Know he's run the line that he has no plans to retire but honestly, think doing three nights at the Co-op may give more impetus to the future idea of residency runs.

 

Park the band for a set number of nights at a venue and do five shows over a fortnight there. Reduces touring wear-and-tear.

He did well over a year on Broadway. Hopefuly he doesnt do the Vegas thing.

Broadway was just him and occasionally the missus, I guess. I could see him return to that solo format, but while the band is good, maybe not.

 

But perhaps your future European tour looks, rather than twenty-five dates across most territories, something such as:

London (Five Nights)
Barcelona (Four Nights)
Rome (Three Nights)
Stockholm (Four Nights)

 

Which would actually be a great boon for some local economies! But less so for the regular full tour circuit in Europe.

On a tangential note, have spun the Expanded Edition of The Gaslight Anthem's History Books - basically the same record with a new mix - today. Didn't think there would be too much difference, but some of the songs really do have better depth and flavour with a second take.

Hmmm. I think it's just digital only - I've had it on the echo dot. Believe they released it because they liked the vinyl sound but not the digital version of the original record. (For the eight people who bought it anyway.)

Eight is optimistic! 
I listened a couple of times on Spotify, prior to making a pre-order, and decided against as it didn't sound great and I couldn't see myself returning to it very often. A CD purchase is all they'd have got this time though.

The original? I remember thinking the tunes themselves were great - nay, terrific - but the mix was odd on a few.

Looks like a handful of Platinum seats are back out on the market for Co-op Live. Frustrate me, because they clearly weren't there two days after they'd sold out, which begs the question as to whether they are resale tickets that TM purchased back from customers who listed them, and then offered them back out to the public as part of their Platinum range.

 

I love Bruce, I really do. But as Bob Smith said the other week, the artist can do more in these situations, especially when your top-price ticket is still comfortably going for a triple-figure amount with breathing room.

On the key omissions point - just play Jungleland then! Get it out of the Jersey swamps and back here.

The special thing about Jungleland for me is the fact that you know if you're hearing it, Bruce is basically saying "this has been a great show and you've been a great audience".

 

I'd hate to see it played at every show.

 

I feel like it watered down Backstreets, for example.
