Mad how legendary bands Orbital and Air are billed lower than derivative, one album Wet Leg. But I suppose they're girls, and Orbital and Air are guys.

Or wet leg are just bigger sellers these days

Bears den have been a solid album charting band for a while, hinds are not

Probably because male bands keep getting preferential treatment on festival running orders. But in this case, Hinds have been putting out charting albums for just as long. Imagine if they got the same kudos as a boring, overrated band like Bear's Den!

Look, I much prefer Hinds too but I think it's hard to argue with a festival running order based on 'commercial merit'.

Bear's Den have had two Top 10 albums.

Hinds have never even had an album in the Top 40, let alone the Top 10.

I'm not seeing sexism...

If that was the case bears den would be wet leg are.

I agree that there is an issue with female performers at these size festivals but it's also quite disrespectful to bears den to say that they got this spot just because they are men and not your cupa tea.

Hmm. Will have to agree to disagree on this one. I think you're underestimating the inherent, institutionalised sexism in the music industry.

I shared actual facts which showed a significant disparity in popularity. Your argument however appeared to be based on Hinds being a more interesting band. Which I agree with but nowhere does that drive lineup placement.

And I absolutely agree that there is sexism more generally but that is an entirely different argument. Your criticism was of this festival specifically.

ps oh and by the way the head booker for Wilderness is, er, a woman.

I said I agree there's a problem with female performers at these sized festivals but that also doesn't mean that every female based band placed lower is because of sexism, as @xxialac hinds haven't had a top 40 album and beard den have had several.

Imo lambrini girls are better than 90% of the bands at Wilderness but does no way mean I think they should be headlining etc

You've got to be careful with those facts, because those in the know realize that Bear's Den do a lot of soundtrack stuff, which gets a lot of listens, but that's not exactly a festival crowd. And are you saying that it would be ok for a black booker to book a whole festival of white artists? I'm just interested about why you think the booker being a woman is relevant.

What?

I said nothing about Bear’s Den’ streams. I just pointed out they had two Top 10 successes whereas Hinds didn't even have a Top 40. They are commercially more successful = higher poster placement. It’s not rocket science.

You accused the festival of discriminating against women. I also pointed out the chief booker was a woman, which makes your assertion even weaker.

Your are clinging on desperately to a feeble, easily disproven argument seeing sexism where there is none.

That's not what was being discussed. This was a suggestion that billing Bears Den above Hinds was evidence of sexism on behalf of those organising Wilderness. The evidence shows that, while Hinds are great (another person here who things they're good), Bears Den are unequivocally a bigger act. Whether we personally think they're better or not, is irrelevant. They're simply more popular. That's not sexism.

If the argument was a deeper one along the lines of "is hinds lack of commercial success down to their music, or deep rooted sexism that prevails within the music industry?", then fine. There could genuinely be a solid argument behind this. But that's not where this started.

Don't try to explain to me what was being discussed. I responded to something I saw with my own eyes that I didn't agree with.

As for Hinds/Bear's Den, if Bear's Den are bigger than Hinds then they have benefited from their gender big time 😂
