Good for an up and comer! Glasto 25 Smaller bands thread!

I know its fun, discussing the big mega acts - but personally lose more and more of my Glastonbury browsing the incredible range of up and coming bands.  So i thought id go early and set up a thread. to share some thoughts and perhaps be great to share some awareness of these acts as-well.  Stole the title from Sprints song then realised it might not be clear what it was lol.

SPRINTS - played Leftfield last year - I would love to see them get an early Woodsies or even Other stage next year to keep the momentum going.

Lambrini Girls - Played all over the place last year -   hopefully means a lot of people caught them - be goof to get the same again

Man/Woman/Chainsaw - Really good mini album/EP out kind of act I can see popping up on the poster to a WHO!  and then gather a load of momentum - Fans of Black Country New Road will love them. Just get them in wherever you can

Heartworms - technically its a solo act but will move straight past that - My personal feeling is that this might absolutely blow up - no album yet but the quality of the material is top tier - very new to the scene - but I hope festivals have noticed.  Id hope for at least a BBC introducing slot.  Maybe like Nova Twins where she does a BBC introcing slot so well received ended up on the Other Stage next time.

Divorce - popped up on an APE & Bearded Theory line ups, perhaps one of the acts gonna hit the festival season hard. Im not so sure on them yet myself need a bit more of a listen - kind of suspect they might appeal to the fans of Wet Leg & TLDP  -  So it might be interesting when there debut album comes out in March

The Meffs  - Got a leftfield appearance written all over them

Mary In The Junkyard - Absolutely brilliant starting to pick up some press coverage of late.

Nova Twins -  Probably to big and well know for this thread now - but hey they are back with album 3 - They really jumped up in the stakes after the 2nd album but perhaps taken a little too long to follow up to strike while the iron was hot and it maybe started to cool - but Still are around next summer - and not being on the Download poster makes me think they might have opted for the G instead.

English Teacher - Really hope Glastonbury strike again and get them back - to help them push on - perfect for the PArk or Woodsies mid -afternoon I think

Sorry I did not put much in the way of musical descriptions - i figure more fun for people to try them for themselves.

Saw her first show outside the UK in 2022 and will see her again in March. Her liveshow was really impressive, looking forward to the debut album (should be out in February).

Yeah caught her at Manc Psych fest -  considering the lack of familiarity a lot of the crowd had with the material she has them hooked from halfway though the next song - I see bands that have been doing it for years not have the stage presence - In no doubt having seen 50+ bands this year -  One of the performances that most sticks in my mind.

I also immediately bought tickets for the tour -  Gonna follow this one from the start -

You looking for bands that are rumoured or touring, or just smaller bands that could be interesting to see?

FWIW Nova Twins' Thursday night slot on Truth in 23 was one of the best things I saw that year on any stage

Great idea for a thread!  I love discovering new stuff at festivals.  Next month I am travelling to Bristol to see a band I first saw in the Bimble Inn at my first Glasto in 2014 and they blew me away (Will and the People if anyone is interested) and also Smoove and Turell who I've seen a couple of times at Glasto too.

One of my favourite bands is Man and the Echo who I discovered in the Left Field in 2016 - brilliant act who I've probably seen getting on for 10 times since.

I agree with the idea expressed on here before that smaller acts should be announced earlier than the well-known acts so that punters have time to listen to them in advance.

Great idea for a topic. Some amazing bands I've seen this year:

Snayx - have toured with Royal Blood and offer that kind of heavyish, potent rock. They tore up the small venue I saw them at recently and I think they'd be great

Calva Louise - super polished and interesting live band. Kind of like a mini-Muse. Seem to never quiet get the attention they deserve.

Gustaf - supported LCD and *really* remind of Talking Heads / LCD, which makes sense as they're NYC natives.

tlk vox - ethereal and moving piano & slow beats. One of the best voices I've heard live in a while. From Bristol and would fit with what's left of the spiritual side of Glastonbury.

I mean my focus in the first post was bands that could easily pop up at Glasto 25 - but I think people should promote any smaller bands on this thread - as they need all the help they can get.

Yep 100% ive said the same thing - even if they just dropped 2 names a month from Jan - would be a massive boost for these acts

English Teacher - mentioned above already but gets my vote too. Saw them on Leftfield last year and they were brilliant. Now won the Mercury prize for their debut album. Really hope to see them back next year on a bigger stage. Woodsies maybe?

The K’s - their set early at Woodsies was one of my favourites in 2024. Indie rock. High energy and some really catchy tunes that get stuck in your head. Again, hope to see them back. Don’t let the silly band name put you off

Wunderhorse - saw them in 2023 in a similar early Woodsies slot to The K’s last year, and have seen them a couple of times since. Indie rock.  They are supporting Sam Fender at the O2 next month, and their second album is now out. Really hope to see them on The Other stage maybe? Seems like they are ready for a bigger stage.

SPRINTS - mentioned above too but agree they are worth checking out. Hopefully on a bigger stage than Leftfield next year.

49th & Main - caught these guys in an early slot at the Acoustic stage of all places in 2022. Indie pop duo from Kilkenny. One of my favourite sets that year and have listened to their music a lot since. Would love to see them back again. They’ve released a new album and EP since then so would love to see them back on the farm.

Sprints (at the Actress & Bishop in Birmingham) are my gig of the year. Really hope they get a decent slot, even better if it's one of the televised stages.

Big Special - not sure if they're out and about next year but if they are, always good fun.

The Orchestra (For Now) seem to be on the rise, playing a lot of gigs, nothing out to buy as yet I don't think. An early slot on the Park or BBC Introducing.

Opus Kink are a band everyone needs to see, ideally having not seen them before. Their live show is incredible.

Gurriers have a spring tour and I anticipate a fair few festival appearances for them. Park, Woodsies, or maybe early Other for them.

Cardinals - early Park or BBC Introducing perhaps?

Wunderhorse, 49th & Main, Gustaf, The Meffs, Lambrini Girls... yes to them all returning.

Deary - Absolutely gorgeous shoegaze with many nods to Slowdive

Sewing Club - pleasing indie rock

TTSSFU - more shoegaze!

GIFT - New York based rock band. I love the song "Later" by them.

Moonpools - you can never have enough shoegaze

Casino Hearts - checkout the song "In and Out of Time" if you like shoegaze stuff.

Sunveil - German shoegaze!

This seems to be the thread to mention the brilliant Pastel, wonderful band based out of South Wales via Manchester. Cracking Shoegaze band that got on the bill at Liam’s Knebworth shows. Debut album coming out soon. For fans of Ride, The Verve etc.

You have excellent taste.
Gurriers are an exceptional band.

I'll contribute WH Lung to the conversation.   Love that band, and their new record is a favorite for the year.

I first stumbled upon Cut Capers in 2019 on Avalon and it was one of my highlights of that weekend. They're a Bristol band and usually pop up most years at the farm. Definitely worth a watch.
