That is actually maybe the biggest issue with Werchter in my opinion. With so many bands/artists out there (and I'm no talking about the more popular ones), they have a large tendency to recycle and revert to the same ones every time instead of booking something new. Pulp is just one of them, but a band like Biffy has also been mentioned multiple times. There are also hundreds more. I get it that some of the bands might not be as popular in Belgium as they might think themselves (and thus demand money for), but there can only be that many people that takes the X'ed number of KOL-performance into their consideration when booking a ticket as well, and they probably cost much more. It seems like it's much the same at Graspop, so it would probably be healthy for both to mix it up a bit, especially for those bands that can be acceptable as crossovers.
It's something that has always amazed be with Werchter and just look at one of the few slots for electronic acts as well. Now Rüfüs Du Sol are back after a short break, when there are multiple other options.
Yes, headline festivals. There are different types of festivals.
There is a reason they aren't being booked to do Creamfields or Ibiza Rocks.
A festival built on music that you're 16 year old son in his "f&ck the world and everything" phase would listen to while hanging down an alleyway sharing a roll-up ciggy.
Not the music that your little sister sings into her hairbrush.
But you are the one that thought Yungblud would be the biggest artist to headline just 3 years ago.
Top 5 artists were
Enter Shikari
Take That
OMD
Twin Atlantic
The National
OMD took 1-4 in the songs too. Didn't think I listened to Take That as much as that but not really surprising either.
It think they get asked about a lot in interviews it sounds like its been intermittently worked on over the last years between there quite heavy tour schedule they never seem to use the word finished - But id take a guess they probably want to drop it prior to the next festival season - So yeah late april/may would. make a lot of sense
Travis Scott / Biffy Clyro
Chappell Roan / Hozier
Muse or Eminem / Central Cee
The only one I'm unsure on is Muse, if not them then Eminem but I don't know if they would have 3 rap headliners in a year
