I thought the same!

One year I arrived with no money at all. Went to see a few mates, got some “products” on tick, by Thursday evening I had more than enough cash for the weekend

The only reason that it is so crowded now is the fact that people now bring much bigger tents now. There is the same area available for camping and far more people camp in WV, Sticklinch and offsite camping than used to.
The tent that I bring for myself now probably has a larger footprint than the one I used to use for the whole family. I’ve quite often seen a multi room family tent used by a couple or even individuals.
If you bring a small tent you will probably be able to squeeze it in somewhere centrally.
I remember one year the guy camping next to me turned up with a wheelybin full of Stella.  Sold the Stella (£1.50 each 3 for a fiver), brought gear with the proceeds and slept in the bin. You don’t get that now

I used to see people sleeping in cardboard boxes back in the day 😂

Not sure our plan for next year yet. Couple of us travelling down by car and meeting friends who are getting coach. Aiming to come in via Gate D and hopefully get some space in bushy/dairy for 3 tents. How quickly do these usually fill up? Not really bothered about walking distance once I'm inside the festival, more concerned about the walk from the car with all the gear 😅

Dairy fills up pretty quick for that reason, but Bushy is much slower and you shouldn't have a problem if you're in before Thursday.

I'm sure your gear will last longer than the walk to the tent

We got through the gates at midday on Wednesday this year aiming for Dairy Ground… Dairy was completely full by then but Back House (where we ended up) was completely empty. Baileys had loads of room too.
