When can we expect them back at Glastonbury and where?

They are free on the Saturday '25 during their European tour and are known to have a crazy tour schedule but it seems unlikely.

Could they instead come back and headline Pyramid in '27?

Chat was that they were offered Pyramid sub for 2025 and turned it down, if I recall.

They'll need a late 2026 / early 2027 record that matches or eclipses the commercial success of Romance to be on the level, likely with a winter arena tour proper around that time. They sell three nights at The O2, then we are talking.

I would also take them as a credible "young" and "homegrown" (for a given definition) headline option if they have bagged two mega-stars to top elsewhere - for argument's sake, let's say Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Their current UK tour and its sales so far i'd argue are no less credible than doing 3 o2 nights.

They aren't charging the earth mind you

Feels like Fontains may just have cracked the -  I WONT LISTEN TO ANY NEW MUSIC!!!!!  brigade like Sam Fender has done as-well. I think this kind of stuff boads well for them at Glastonbury.

I could see them getting a big slot next time around.

Agreed, think this album is hitting a lot of different demographics age wise and radio wise e.g Radio 1/Radio X/6 Music etc.

Gutted I've only clicked with them in the last couple of months. I need to revisit their first album cos I didn't like it on the first listen. Their latest one is f**king excellent. Modern World is up there with my songs of the year. Phenomenal record overall.

Me too friend. Couldn't get into album #1 at all. I feel like a glory hunter now, but they are really clicking with me.

Hahah. I love nothing better than getting into a band that's been around for a while and it suddenly clicking.

It's a 'tail between the legs moment' when it's a band you actively hated or slated (this wasn't the case with Fontaines for me, but a few historically where I've hated them then they've become my all time time favourite - Radiohead the greatest example).

I tried to get into these the same time as Idles. I still cannot get on board with Idles. I really don't think it'll happen either. I was indifferent with Fontaines, and thought the first album was bang average. Maybe I will still feel that way about it. But I am now massively up for watching them live and have heard incredible things from mates who've seen them recently.

Fair f**ks to them!

Crowd at the 3 Arena gig in Dublin last week ranged from teenagers to 50+...definitely clicking with all ages (which is useful for a Pyramid headliner). Glad they decided to sit this year out though, 4 of the last 5 festivals (albeit in ever increasing slots) would be overkill (I was even surprised to see them back this year after 2022...especially as Romance wasn't out yet, but they did play the 3 songs that were in the public domain at that stage I guess). If they remain on their current trajectory, then no reason they can't be part of the discussion...they're pretty prolific too so not impossible that they have two more albums released between now and summer 2027 giving them a lot to pick from to play a completely different set to those they have before at Glasto. The newer material also sounds much "bigger" if you know what I mean, sits more conformably on a bigger stage (whereas Dogrel was fantastic in small sweaty venues, the sound seems a bit "small" on the bigger stage at times (or maybe it's just more raw and less polished)...still love loads of it (and A Hero's Death), but the last 2 albums were made for headlining).

I loved the first album and saw them post lockdown at the Bath Forum. Haven't listened to much since as I found the gig really hard work. The repetitive shouting didn't work for me live.

Feel i need to get back on board now so I can exploit my early adopter credentials!

Idles live are a much better thing than Idles on record. I've seen them a bunch of times, always great. Don't get me wrong, I like the records, but they pale compared to seeing the songs live.

I love Starburster but generally I've not really got into Romance, it's the worst of their albums for me but it's done great and really gave them a boost commercially and is winning them bigger audiances.

I find it hard to imagine them headlining the pyramid, I've seen them live two or three times on previous tours and while they play the songs well, they're from the Kings of Leon school of live performances - just playing the songs straight with no real departures or interaction which doesn't do much for me sometimes - even though I like the songs. I think that's fine for smaller venues but more difficult to make work on the pyramid.

It's the crowd that makes their gigs and like someone said, they appeal to a wide range of ages.

Come on in leaps and bounds as a live act. Was stood next to the fella from Courteeners at their show supporting The Strokes and he suggested I'd caught them on a bad day.

At least, I assume that's what he said. I was four sheets to the wind.

Anyway, Leeds last week was like day and night in difference. Gives me strong vibes for, of all things, The Cure.

Big Fontaines fan since I heard Hurricane Laughter before lockdown. Top live act, and then I saw them in Leeds last week. They're almost too good, the live show isn't the riot and on the verge of falling of apart like it was!! Very polished now and would well deserve their place on the top of the poster.
