aident93
Maribou State were covered in the West Holts thread recently but their new album has dropped (albeit they had released almost half the songs as singles) but it's an unbelievable album! They should 100% be headlining a stage this year!
Meerkat
It's a little bit Indie Pop by numbers, but I'm enjoying the Circa Waves album. Feel like they've fallen away a bit but it's a pleasant 30 minute album for a Friday morning. I hadn't seen the Manic Street Preachers album was pushed back, was looking forward to that today. Acid_Haze
Eusexua! Just listened to the new FKA Twigs one and I love it. I like the sort of modern take on 90s trip hop Madonna/Björk stylings, making dreamlike dance music. Her vocals are amazing as per usual, and the production is super interesting and fantastic. Making music that's sensitive, sensual, experimental and club-ready at the same time. I really hope she headlines West Holts or Woodsies this year, she'd smash it. Been hoping to see her since she released Magdalene and she's done 2 more cracking albums since! Not sure about the track with North West though 😂

Expand I was so taken with this description last night I made it my mission to check out the album as soon as it was polite to shake the windows today. Loved it. Some really delicate and intricate production that I'm loving that definitely reminds me of mid-career Björk. Definitely going to be getting a few spins today. On first listen the garage rhythms of Perfect stranger stood out for me, but the first 4 tracks are a really strong way to open the record and Wanderlust is the perfect album closer done right. Acid_Haze
Surprised nobody's mentioned the newest Bad Bunny album on here - what with him being one of the most popular artists in the world and all! It's also the best I've ever heard of him. Feels like a love letter to his home country Puerto Rico, celebrating its culture after the bad press it received from certain individuals last year. It's a very colourful, joyous album. It's still got all his classic reggaeton beats in, with nice synth flourishes mixed in. You can hear the latin influences a lot more in this one though than his others, and it's a bit less Drake-y than some of his older stuff which is always good. Harmonic Prospector
A bit of Efests nepotism with this one, but thought it would be appropriate given the subject of the song. My son's band released their debut single on Friday and it is written in loving memory of my best mate and fellow Glasto enthusiast who tragically passed away in August 2022 from a brain tumour exactly 3 months after his 3-day festival themed wedding at the age of 42. On his wedding day he was fit and healthy with no symptoms whatsoever. Only a few weeks later he started to get blurred vision, unable to focus on messages on his phone and suffered blind spots in his peripheral vision when driving. His condition deteriorated rapidly, forcing him and his new wife to abandon their honeymoon at Glasto while they waited to find out what the issue was. Finally, in mid-July he got the devastating news that he had an incurable brain tumour and was given, at best, 18 months to 5 years with treatment. Sadly, he only lasted 5 more weeks, losing the ability to speak or understand anything that was happening to him, and he passed away on the 3 month anniversary of his wedding. He was Godfather to my eldest son and honorary Uncle to my youngest. He had been a constant presence throughout both their lives and was like family to both of them. When I took my two boys to say their goodbyes to him at the Hospice my youngest son, who was only 16 at the time and had just been accepted into Music College, made a promise that he would write a song for him. This is that song and I am so unbelievably proud of what he has produced. Despite him and his band mates only being 17/18, I think most people will be surprised at how mature and timeless the songwriting is, and it is a fitting tribute to a guy who was universally loved by everyone who knew him and was a true Glasto lover having attended multiple times over the years. Anyway, the band is called Cold July. They have well over an album's worth of material ready to go, and they will be releasing more music throughout the year. If you like what you hear, then give them a follow over on Instagram and whatever your chosen streaming platform is. As you all know engagement, follows, likes, playlist adds, etc are all so crucial these days for young bands starting out, especially with debut singles, so I'm sure they would appreciate the love from the Efest community. 9
