West Holts is great for heading to when you dont quite know what to do with yourself: Dont fancy any of the bands on the main stages? chances are there'll be something good on West Holts. Tends to be a decent crowd there too, on the whole.

Not sure what to eat? go to West Holts, the food there is varied and generally of a better standard than most other big stages and areas. Particularly that Bayou cajun thingo, which ive been thinking about intermittently since June 😄

plus T+C is just round the corner, and if ive got a nice plate of food in me and fancy chilling out for a bit, i want nothing other than some kind of weirdness in T+C.

There is a veggie place just a few stalls away from the brothers bar that is impeccable.  about 7 or 8 amazing salads on offer and massive portions.

Drugs are back big league now. Huge amount of people on coke and ketamine then late doors. Sloppy c**ts everywhere.

One of my favourite Glastonburys ever was 2005 and that was, to a large extent, because of the drugs. I'm not referring to any mind altering substances that I may or may not have taken but to huge numbers of other festival goers. In June 2005 magic mushrooms were still legal in the UK as long as they hadn't been processed in any way which of course includes drying.

At that time psilocybin (active ingredient of 'shrooms) use had rocketed in the UK mainly because the indoor cultivation of 'shrooms such as Golden Teachers had become increasingly commonplace and was actually risk free as it wasn't illegal. This resulted in them being available, fresh, in headshops, market stalls and various other outlets.

At the 2005 festival they were available for sale all over the place. It wasn't only stalls selling them, there were mobile vendors wandering around will huge trays of them.

This, in my view, caused a huge shift in the whole vibe and atmosphere of the place. The festival is famous for being full of happy people but 2005 was on a whole different level. So many enormous grins everywhere and groups of people laughing so hard that they almost had to hold each other up. I think that this hit it's peak on the Sunday afternoon/night as all the vendors either cut their prices or just gave their remaining stock away as they had a very short shelf life and wouldn't last until the next event.

  It was lovely!

Hope that this isn't too off topic as mushrooms are of course edible and some would argue food for the soul.

In July 2005 the law was changed and fresh magic mushrooms joined heroin and crack cocaine as a class A drug.......

My other half and I were talking about this at the weekend how you could just go to a headshop and buy some skins, shrooms and some spice. Absolutely mental times.

I miss the days of shrooms being legal and available.

Sustenance and psychedelic all in one

Exactly.

No one cares if you want to run 5k while tripping balls on mushrooms and eating poutine at the same time.

Just don't be a twat.  Or piss on the fields.  Or drop your litter.

It's absolutely mental that they aren't legal any longer.

Along with banning of front of house drug testing, it's some of the most backward legislation of recent years.

magic mushrooms have been illegal in the USA since 1970.  When I saw them for sale at stalls at Glasto 2004 I was gobsmacked.

I remember reading that a couple of states had legalised/decriminalised them I think...

But yeah, we used to be able to get them from head shops where they were fresh and refrigerated until 2005.

Sorry I'm from a small country, just thought you could pop there

It's made absolutely no difference here whatsoever - mushrooms, truffles and chocolates, or dried, are easily found.  Also, they grow naturally here so people go harvest them for personal consumption before the summer.

There was that bacon sandwich place there I forget the name at WH. Delicious. Something brothers. I dont know why i didnt take pics of the food vendors in hopes they woud be there the next time i came back.

Still aint good any latin food though. If I could cook there I think I would leave richer than the bands that get paid.

Yeah mainly weed and mushies back then. All the stalls still mainly played dub reggae.

Same for the early days of the SE Corner. Nice and trippy. Been overtaken by K-Hole merchants now.

I've seen some really really weird stuff going on up by the stone circle just before dawn. Like PCP weird.

One year we saw an older hippy looking fellow dressed as a wizard, he was on his hands and knees digging frantically in the mud.

Kept saying he needed to get to the centre of the earth.
