Just been playing Smash Brothers Brawl. Funny how a glorified Gamecube game can outshine pretty much anything on the other two big consoles.

Meta Knight is my favourite character, well, it was the new character that I instantly clicked with more than the others. The first time round it was Link, now it's Meta Knight. King Dedede is also a great new character. Snake was good and Sonic hasn't been as much fun to play as in years. Whats amazing is how loyal their fighter versions are. Sonic has moves that have been in the games one way or another, as are Solid Snakes animations, I really liked the attention to detail (particularly how Snake lies on his belly for a split second after a roll - if youve played the games you'll know what I'm talking about). The Pokemon Trainer was also a lot of fun, as you bascially play as Charizard, Ivysaur and Squirtle and can swap them like Zelda/Shiek with Down and B, and they have unique moves. What I really loved was the finishing move for the Pokemon Trainer where a box flashes up at the bottom of the screen saying "It's super effective", nice touch.

Pit was a bit crap, I didn't like his smash moves as he does a quicker one-two smash move that just doesn't always hit the way I want it to, I prefer the characters that have a slower but single smash move. Olimar was alright, but felt a bit too random and dependant on the Pikmin he plucked out to help him. R.O.B I thought was also a bit pointless and Jigglypuff is as lame as ever.

The stages are awesome too. I really love the new Metroid stages, while the Mario Kart, Fire Emblem and F-Zero stages are my faves. The Mario/Bros one has a tendency to just get really chaotic.

And it's full of trophies and stuff to unlock like old-school music and modern remixes of game music. I really loved the Zelda medley.

Between Smash Brotehrs and Mario Kart and the odd visit back to Mario Galaxy I don't think I'll need to play another video game for a long while.

And to think people are paying over the odds for a flashy demo of the latest Gran Turismo.............
