I feel like they are probably missing out on the 'album experience' where you get a new release, vinyl/cd/tape/whatever, then listen to it, in the order the artist intended. Then if it's good, you listen to it over and over, as you only get a new album once or twice a month as the music you like is never on the radio and the internet doesn't exist in any meaningful way yet 🙂
To toally name drop, I met Bill Drummond a few years ago and had a brilliant chat about this very thing, he is of a similar opinion, an album should be listened to in the that order, not on shuffle. Plenty of albums tell a story withput being 'concept albums'
No sadly, it’s populist stuff that tends to do that. Or the other side being painted as sh*t. Genuinely well intentioned and competent people like Starmer don’t stand a chance against big personalities with a monorail to sell the town.
‘Levelling up’ was a b0llox catchphrase. Actually expanding regional devolution away from Westminster (including my patch in Cheshire)!is genuinely radical and democratic. Won’t win too many headlines but future generations will benefit from it.,
I've attended Syd For Solen a few times and not Oya.
Syd For Solen is a young day festival. Only been running a few years and it has teething problems in organisation. Last year (2024) they moved to a new site that usually doesnt host events of this scale and there was a ton of issues on the first day (headlined by Fred Again) in overcrowding, huge queues, few toilets, lack of space to chill out, food vendors running out of food etc. This resulted in tons of complaints from attendees. I went again on the third day (Jack White) and alot of the issues were sorted out but I heard the day had only sold 60% of tickets compared to the first day so much more manageable in crowd size. I have tickets this year for Chappell Roan and QOTSA and hope they take the feedback from last year and put it in action!
I'd say Oya would be the better choice as has been running longer and more established (and ive heard good things from friends). If Syd For Solen wasn't on my doorstep then I would probably make that choice too. 🙂
