There are four of us going, at the more mature end of the scale in age only, and never having been to a festival before we have a few questions that I hope can be answered on here.

Can we choose which colour camp site we go to, Gold seems most likely, or does that get allocated when we get our tickets?

Is it possible to choose our preferred car park?

Is it OK to leave stuff in the car and go back for it when we like, as we don't want to take all the beer in one go?

We should be arriving lunchtime Friday, how busy will it be by then?

How much time is there between bands so we can move to different stages or is it a case of choose a stage and stay put?

Any other helpful advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

just put the new tent up for the first time and its a lot bigger than it looked in the picture! Will need a quiet campsite to fit the bloody thing in. Green sounds like it could be a winner to me. Getting there early Friday so should be OK picking a spot.

hello people,

i went as part of a large group back in the great year of 06 and this is my 1st time since! This time just going with the misses! I think last time we stayed in red or blue.....was a nightmare! We want a more chilled out camp this time where we can have a great time and a laugh with our neighbours without it being too mental!!

Also its the misses 1st festival so hopefully ease her into the party :(!

Another question is which campsite tends to seem safest! Misses is very worried about loosing belongings lol!

If it is important to you don't take it!! Honestly festivals are great but remember if we all lived in tents at home we would not leave our most valuables behind as they wouldn't be there when you came back from work :P

Please don't think festivals are full of burglar bills :P :P :P , Its really just opportunists.

Your best bet is to share a can or 2 with your neighbours and I am sure should they see anyone behaving dodgy will tell them to hop it!!!

we stayed in green last year and everyone was fab :( :( :P

yeah that was my thinking! I had no problems last time but there was a mass crowd of us so obviously now theres gonna be just the one tent we're a little more vulnerable! But i have every intention of making friends with the neighbours so hopefully a class A neighbourhood watch system can be put into place :D!

Green certainly seems to be the place to be i think! I vaguely remember carrying jelousy toward those camping there in 06!

These have really helped! Thanks everyone.

Think I'm going for Green or Gold, although the people I'm going with might want Red! Noooo. Main thing for me in the facilities, need a shower at least once!

The spiders have freaked me out a bit so hope they aint as bad as people say.

Can't wait!!

LOL by the sounds of it those spiders were a one off! I never had any when i stayed there anyway! Word of warning though you may find you feel dirtier after your shower than before :P.

Been thinking of doing this for a week or so but not got round to it.

A lot of people come to this site asking which are the best campsites to stay and which are the best for parties etc. So I thought we could all pool ideas together and come up with some sort of guide for all to use. Only submit a view if you have stayed in the campsite, not e.g. I walked through red and i looked like a tip.

Things i am looking for are:

Camping area - Is there space? Is the ground hard/soft? Is it hilly? Locality.

Toilets - Are there enough? Are the clean?

Party atmosphere? Remember that some peoples idea of a party is different to another, so just say what you liked about it.

Amenities - Are there any food stalls? Mobile phone charging points?

And any other info you think may be useful.

If i get conflicting info, i will go with the majority vote.

I will start.

Gold

Pros

Spacious, there is room around your tent and you're not tripping over other peoples guide ropes.

Clean(er) toilets

Close to car park

Not noisy (in an offensive way)

Normally find that the crowd that inhabit Gold are pretty laid back and easy to get on with.

The ground is good for camping but there is a hill just before you get to the entrance to Red/Green

Cons

20 min walk from arena

I only found one set of food vans (was there any in other sites?)

Red

Pros

Liveliest campsite

Closest campsite to the arena

Cons

Most people walk through red from other campsites to the arena so its always a tip

Toilets are digusting

Can be too lively. Difficult to get any sleep.

Really cramped

Blue

Pros

Cleanish toilets

Livley but you can still get a few hours kip!

Only 5 min walk from arena

Not too far from carparks

Showers

Lots of food vans. Last year there was souther fried chicken, fish n chips, pizza, chinese etc.

Mobile charging points

High up. If it rains, doubtful you will be waterlogged.

Cons

Some people still find it a bit too lively

Massive queue for the loos in the morning

Gets very busy, not very spacious.

Shower queues ghastly, need to get there early (6am) to avoid queues

Orange

Pros

Very close to arena

Not too cramped

Has showers

Can get some kip if you want it

Cons

Very small so you have to get there early

Quite far from the car parks

Its a thoroughfare to Grey campsite

Toilets are manky (like most places)

Grey

Pros

Quiet (If you need your sleep)

Lots Of Space

Cons

Quiet (If you like to party)

The ground isn't good for camping. Can be hard.

Miles away from everything (carpark and stage)

Yellow

Pros

5-10 min walk from arena

Fairly small site....not too far to walk to water points etc

Toilets usually ok

Good atmosphere without it being as lively as red or as quiet as gold

Close to car parks

Cons

Cos its small it fills up quickly

Not much space between tents

If you camp near the fence or path for arena may end up near a generator

Part of it on a hill...good if you're at the top if its raining, not so good if you're on the slope or at the bottom

Green

Pros

Doesn't get too muddy when it rains.

Pretty chilled out, not too loud, not too quiet.

Decent toilets - cleaned regularly (the tankers find it one of the easier sites to enter)

Good selection of food vans at the top of the hill to the arena.

Not a thoroughfare from other sites to the arena.

Still plenty of space for those who arrive on Saturday but does fill up.

Cons

The walk back up the hill after the end of the night. Can seem a long way after a day of bouncing and alcohol.

20 mins from the arena (dependent which end your at).

The walk from South car park can be a bit trecherous in the rain.

Quite a distance from all car parks

map.JPG

If enough people give opinions this could help a lot of the first timers decide which campsite to stay in without finding out they picked the wrong one for the atmosphere they were looking for. It may even make some of usual V goers give another site a try.

Thanks. I will update the lists when possible.

hi there

this is fab as i have never been to a festival before, think me and hubby are gonna aim for yellow or green, sooo excited ;)
