marooned
I think you'll find Larmer Tree won it ONCE - although they always seem to be nominated for the Bogs Award. They certainly WON'T win any awards for customer relations after they dropped one of the liveliest Forums in Festival-land!!! They claimed it was because of a constant 'porn attack' - funny how other Festival Forums can manage - all bolloc#s, of course, they just didn't take to some pretty minor criticism of LT 2007!! It's obvious that Larmer Tree AND End of the Road should have their own wider menued Forums - whether it's linked to e-fests or not - it WORKS for Wychwood, which is about the same size............ ding dong
Larmer Tree Fest is one of my faves. Not only coz we are lucky enough to play it, but because of it's ethos, it's friendliness, it's ease of getting around, the food. I could go on. My Kid, Lewis celebrates his birthday around LT. We had a pirate party with the rest of CC last year and spent the rest of the day Swashing and Buckling. I love it. Also went to end of the road last year. same place, different vibe. Had great fun ! The larmer garden location makes it a very special experience.
Out2lunch
The best bogs award is well deserved, as they are cleaned 2 to 3 times a day, but the best thing bout Larma Tree for me is the free hop showers 24/7. You just cant beat a hot shower after a night of dancing... I cant wait for this year, its got an interesting line up. Have stuck my name up on the liftshare site, no offers yet Have also looked at the bus timetables but can't seem to find a mention of the "thickthorn crossroads". Any more help out there for me? marooned
Ref Shugie's map - Thickthorn is the off-set crossroads, sitting at the top of a hill just after you pass The Inn on the Chase, which will be on your Right (IF the bus has come down the A354 from Salisbury way!) Off the bus, cross the road to Millers Lane, the small road that runs, on the map, from the bus stop to the TOP of the picture. Don't walk along the road that leads off the bottom of the map, otherwise you'll never be seen again once you get lost in the lanes of Gussage St.Michael, Horton etc.etc. IT IS WELL SIGNPOSTED with BROWN SIGNS - LARMER TREE GRADENS with a 'petal' logo - you can't miss it. However, it must be a good mile and a half walk from the bus stop!! I would give you a lift, but we're in a smallish van - only two legal seats, and every cubic inch in the back is taken up with Festiestuff! AND, we'll be coming up from the Dreaded Horton to that very Crossroads!! Edited July 6, 2008 by marooned
madsue
Thanks shugie for the map and for the offer of a lift! I have a ticket from Weds, so as to see Jools Holland!! And thanks too, to marooned for the info I'll make sure I'm walking the right way! So if any of you see an old dear, with short yellow hair, pulling a suitcase along behind her on Millers Lane, and have room, could you pick me up please
marooned
...will be travelling up through that junction at around 11.30am on the Wednesday (bored to death with Jools Holland - but the Wednesday ticket gets you the pick of the camping spots!) - so, if you see a Red Escort Van, grab hold of the tow hitch, or jump up on the roofrack....... both the same price!! madsue
Cheers!!!!!! How's about I just hitch my case to the towbar, then I can amble along taking in all the glorious scenery in the wonderful sunshine we are going to have

madsue
You're on!!!! Jeez, why do I somehow reckon that the weight of the beer is going to outweigh the case I was going to have to trundle up that lane
pagandrum
Theres a new camp site map up on the Larmerweb. Looks like they've moved the campervans to the day parking on the left leaving more room for us campers to spread out.

marooned
...hope it's not just me being gloomy - but, I think the new campervan area will be even more problematic than the original one. It needs to be a WHOLE LOT BIGGER to accomodate the increasing trend of A showing up on Thursday with van and two kids tents, B showing uo on Friday Morning with Van 2 and three more tents, C and D showing up together on Friday Afternoon with (...well you get the messsage!) next you have their own little dormitory village, and sod anyone else in the vicinity! Yes, I know the map ain't to scale - fingers crossed, the mighty J has a good tape measure.....

marooned
(quote) But it will give a lot more space for the late arrivals, previously the campervan field has been pretty full by mid-day Friday. Mainly due to the number of cars with tents where people can't be arsed to carry their stuff. ...HOW TRUE, lazy sods - but you have to ask 'where are the imaginary stewards' - too busy handing out fluorescent bin bags and silly little maps. As for the size of the new field, I shall try a satellite check on it today (via Google Map) if I get the time! Bit worrying that the cv field is way out on a limb now, conveniently behind all the cars - in view of the increase in Festival thieving. Will have to bring Dalgliesh, the pet crocodile! marooned
Sod's law Shugie, just received this e-mail from the female 'J' - which answers all concerns... ------------------------------------------ Hi Dave Good to hear from you. Apologies in advance for quick answers, we are just about to move on site and extremely busy! Yes there will be a good level of security, including a 24-hour cabin at the gate near the public road. Much much bigger than the old, hence the move. With regards to arrival times, I'm not sure which day you are coming, but the campsite opens at 3 p.m. on Wednesday (no earlier I'm afraid) and 9 a.m. each day after that. Hope this will help us. Best wishes Julia ---------------------------- Only bummer is we'll have to hang about til 3 to get in in the Wednesday - ah well, I can highly recommend Three-Legged Cross Graden Centre for a pre-festival feast! BUT, it's back to the Sealife Centre for Dalgliesh! ...and yes, I have Googled the field - deffo much much bigger - see you
shugie
I'm not wholly convinced about 24 hour security on the gate being that useful. The problem is people who have bought tickets with the express purpose of turning over a good few tents on the first night to get people's cash. The provision of a 24 hour lockup seems more useful. Not a problem in a van, you can lock the door. I've got my own "crocodile" for the tipi though, an electronic one! Perhaps the local constabulary will set up a few dummy tents to nab the naughty. Rumour has it a senior copper was at the festival chilling with his family, when his tent got turned over and stuff nicked. Suddenly there were a lot of police on site, and they catch a numpty or two. But I doubt the current epidemic is numpties, they seem to well organised for that. Light rain forecast for Wednesday, hope that's the only time it puts in an appearance, meant to be getting better at the weekend, not before time. Den, if the stewarding for the campervan field is as relaxed as in previous years then you will be able to get who knows what in with your Fockermobile (saw that filum on the tv the other night, and realised what you meant).
