Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival - which takes place at the Belladrum Estate, by Beauly, Inverness-shire on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th of August is implementing a new recycling project.

The Green Dream Machine will encourage festival-goers to recycle and give them the opportunity to participate in the sorting of the collected materials and contribute to the construction of a piece of ‘environmental art’ that will provide an on-stage backdrop to the festival finale.

The festival will generate over 40 tonnes of waste material which previously would have contributed to landfill. However, The Green Dream Machine project will be attempting to reduce that amount through recycling and pushing the ‘green’ education message, with the help of other eco charities at the event like Eco Police and Friends of the Earth.

The Green Dream Machine Project will set up and sign-post designated points in the performance area and on the camp site to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle. Another novelty feature is a specially designed bike constructed from recycled parts from other bikes which will tour the site collecting recyclables from festival-goers.

Joe Gibbs of Tartan Heart says: "We are making a conscious effort at Tartan Heart 2006 to increase awareness around the impact festivals like this have on the environment and how it is everyone’s responsibility to do their bit to minimise and repair some of the damage. We have perhaps the most beautiful setting in the world for a festival and it is important that we do everything we can to ensure that it stays that way".
