Back in the summer, Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis mentioned that he'd booked an act for 2007 that hadn't played (or played together?) for 35 years and who were once the biggest in the world, and that no one would guess who it was. Some people have presumed that he was talking about a headline act, others not - our take is that it isn't a headliner.

Ever since, music-minded brains have been working overtime trying to work out who he means. Various names have been suggested - The Faces, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, (the original) Genesis, Iron Butterfly, The Doors (but Jim is dead), Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, etc, etc, etc...

Trying to guess who the band is isn't helped by Michael's reputation for getting things slightly wrong: for example, when Roger Waters was to play in 2002, Michael mentioned on several occasions that Pink Floyd were playing. With what he's mentioned, is the 35 years exact? Is he correct that they actually haven't played together for that time, or have they played together and that's passed Michael by? Etc, etc, etc...

Anyway, Michael was on BBC Radio 5 last week, and he mentioned a name that he said would play next year that initially passed us by: John Fogerty. For those not old enough to remember (that's most of us) John Fogerty was in Creedence Clearwater Revival. Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) last played live in 1972 (apart from a very small number of 'unofficial' performances).

CCR can't play in their original form - John Fogerty's brother Tom died in 1990. The two other original members (Stu Cook and Doug Clifford) are currently touring as Creedence Clearwater Revisited, but it's thought that Fogerty won't consider playing with them ever again, after falling out over legal issues.

Glastonbury Festival will take place subject to licence at Worthy Farm, Pilton (near Glastonbury), Somerset from Friday 22nd until Sunday 24th June, with the gates expected to open on Wednesday 20th June. Tickets are expected to go on sale at 9am on Sunday 1st April - we'll bring you the full information on how to buy when it's available.

As we get them, eFestivals will bring you the very best Glastonbury rumours. Help us to help you - if you hear of a band that's playing, please let us know.
