The line-up has been announced for the Meltdown Festival which happens at London's Southbank Centre from Saturday 16th to Saturday 23rd June, and which this year is curated by Jarvis Cocker.
JARVIS COCKER, fourteenth director of Meltdown, said: "Culture should be a stimulant not a sedative. Hide beneath the duvet in your plasma screen, surround-sound, MP3-enabled crash pad if you like, but we will find you and we will wake you up. By combining things that shouldnt be combined, by looking at things from a different angle, by the use of extreme volume and frequencies BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY- we shall rouse you from your slumber. And, youre going to love it.
I am eternally grateful to all the artists who have agreed to contribute to this Meltdown. Theyre a disparate bunch, but they have one thing in common: they will make you think. Together we can make a week that you will remember for the rest of your life. Is that alright for yuz?"
Meltdown is more than a music festival. Under Jarvis stewardship Southbank Centre becomes art college summer school where outsider art meets outsider music, the theatre of the absurd rubs shoulders with absurdist pop and, running throughout the week, there will be a full programme of films, talks, exhibitions, post-show DJ sets and specially created events for young people.
Tickets go on general sale at 9am on Thursday 3 May.
