According to a news report on Ananova here Metallica would like to play Glastonbury Festival in 2009.

Metallica
The article quotes an interview with the band's drummer Lars Ulrich who reveals that having headlined this summer's Reading and Leeds Festivals, the band has the Glastonbury Festival firmly in their sights for 2009. The drummer feels that after, "Having Jay-Z headline this year, it might open doors for other people and genres - maybe us."

However the drummer may be unaware that after the disaster at Roskilde in 2000 where nine people died, Festival organiser Michael Eavis has been reluctant to book any big 'rock' bands in fear of similar misfortune at Glastonbury and so Metallica's ambition to play the festival which takes at Worthy Farm, Somerset could be unlikely to happen.

Tickets for the festival, which takes place over five days from Wednesday 24th June until Sunday 28 June 2009 with the main acts playing over the last three days, go on sale at at 9am on Sunday 5th October, but if you don't register you will not be able to buy a weekend ticket for Glastonbury Festival 2009.

If you plan to buy tickets for friends or family you must make sure they all register! All registered festival-goers will have two options. They can either buy a full weekend ticket at a price of £175 (plus a booking fee of £5). Alternatively, tickets can be reserved at a cost of £50 per ticket. The balance must be paid by Sunday 1st February 2009. With both these options, the number of tickets available per transaction for registered customers is now unlimited.

Tickets may only be purchased if there is a valid registration number for each person. For example, six tickets will require six different unique registration numbers - and the details of the six individuals associated to these registration numbers. A registration number may only be used once, which will prevent inadvertent duplicate purchases.

Purchasers are only able to use one debit card per transaction; therefore it is recommend that all money is put into one account in advance if buying for other people.

Registration does not reserve or guarantee a ticket when they go on sale. Online registration can be carried out by clicking here.
