Glastonbury Festival has announced a new area for this year's Festival, William's Green.

The Wombats
The new area is named after Michael Eavis' grandfather, who was the first person to plant crops at Worthy Farm.

William's Green will be located on the crossroads of the main drag from the Pyramid Stage towards The Acoustic Tent and the main drag from the Meeting Point to the Greenfields. The area is easily recognisable by the Leftfield Tower, a landmark which can be seen from all over the site.

The Queen's Head, which was previously in the Other Stage field, will be central to William's Green, with a line-up that will include the officially confirmed The Wombats, Jason Mraz, and Maximo Park. That last act will be opening the stage at 4pm on Thursday, 25th June.

Another new venue The Snug, which will be immediately next to the Queen's Head will feature themed SingStar sessions,DJ sets, and Playstation booths.

Chai Wallahs will offer a place to chill until the early hours, and there will be the Joe Banana's Silent Disco which will be happening from Wednesday evening onwards.

In addition, beside the Meeting Point, will be a double sided 25 metre square screen showing short films, highlights of performances on the main stages from the previous day and performances from the Queen's Head. Street theatre will also be to the fore in William's Green with walkabout performances.

During the day at William's Green a new Circus Stage on the roadside will provide fun. The area will also feature shopping and eating places, plus The Bandstand (playing from Wednesday) and a new sound system, Reggae Delights, both just round the corner.

In addition to the newly confirmed performers the only officially confirmed acts are Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band as Saturday night headliner, with Blur and Neil Young as the other headliners, plus Kasabian, Doves, White Lies, Echo and the Bunnymen, Fleet Foxes, Emiliana Torrini, Florence & The Machine, Lily Allen, The Ting Tings, and Franz Ferdinand.

This year's full Glastonbury line-up won't be announced until the end of this month, and eFestivals will be publishing it then. To see who has been confirmed, and who might be playing take a look at the eFestivals' Glastonbury 2009 rumours >>.
