Leeds Festival bosses have submitted plans for the annual rock event to increase its crowd capacity to just under 90,000.

Leeds Festival currently offers 69,999 music fans a chance to see hot new acts, and local bands beside big established ones, plus the odd exclusive performance. Its sister event, Reading Festival, has a capacity of 87,000 capacity Reading Festival and organisers, Festival Republic, are looking to increase the limit at the West Yorkshire event by 20,000 making it the larger of the two events.

A report submitted to Leeds City Council reveals that the capacity would go up in annual steps of 5,000 over a four-year period if the proposal is approved by the council.

The report was put together following a multi-agency debrief meeting where the festival's traffic management plan for this year was described as a "huge success". The plan was put together to avoid a repeat of the road congestion in areas like Cross Gates and Halton which has occurred in the build-up to the festival in previous years.

The dates for Leeds Festival 2011 are confirmed as on the bank holiday weekend, from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th August at Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

There are no acts confirmed yet for 2011. Expect a line-up of rock, alternative, indie, punk and metal. Early bird tickets are no longer on sale. Tickets prices have not yet been confirmed but are due on sale Friday 3rd December.
