Florence + The Machine have cancelled their appearance at Portugal's Optimus Alive 2012.

A statement on the Music and Arts festival website states, "Due to a problem in the vocal cords of Florence Welch, the Florence + The Machine have been forced to cancel a performance scheduled for July 14 in Alive'12 Optimus. The problem also affects the concert scheduled for July 12 in Spain, Benicàssim Festival."

An act will be announced soon to fill the space on this year's line-up. The Festival Internacional de Benicassim has alsoconfirmed that Florence will not be playing posting on their Facebook page, "FIB 2012 organization has been unable to find a substitute in such a small time frame. The Long Island-New York band De La Soul, will be playing in Florence + The Machine's slot at Main Stage on Thursday the 12th of July.

Optimus Alive!12, takes place in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, between Friday 13th and Sunday 15th of July, with bands starting at 5pm each day.

Tickets have sold out for the festival which has arts, cafes, restaurants, as well as music on offer.
