More acts have been announced for the line-up of The Futureheads' guitarist Ross Millard curated Split Festival.
They join a bill featuring The Futureheads (Sunday headliners), The Unthanks, Field Music, Kathryn Williams, Kyla La Grange, This Aint Vegas, The Lake Poets, The Cornshed Sisters, Lets Buy Happiness, Warm Digits, Young Liar, Natasha Haws, The Chapman Family, The Greeting Committee, That Fucking Tank, John J Presley, Richard Dawson, Lilliput, The Unit Ama, The Real Davina, and Algiers.
The festival's line-up was picked by Ross Millard, from The Futureheads. Ross along with the rest of The Futureheads and a selection of local experts, helps to organise Split Festival.
Ross said, "Obviously we have a couple of top, top acts still under wraps, but I'm very pleased with the overall line-up. It features a huge amount of emerging local talent, alongside some of the best in new British guitar rock from elsewhere (Citizens!, Hawkeyes, Folks). We also have some cherished acts with huge back catalogues behind them (St Etienne, Field Music), which is perfect for the Sunday evening. King Creosote is also another great score for our Acoustic stage, as he is yet another Mercury nominee to grace Split Festival."
Split's Barry Hyde added, "Unfortunately, due to contractual obligations involving other festivals, we are not able to announce Saturday's headline act until August 27, but we can say we're very, very excited to have one of the most influential and important British guitar bands of the last decade appearing at Split Festival this year. We're also thrilled about Saturday's second headline act, but are also unable to announce them until the same date."
This year Split Festival has expanded to a three day event held from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd September 2012 at Ashbrooke Sports Club, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear> The weekend will be kicking off with Free Film Friday showing two classic movies on a massive outdoor cinema screen. This event will take place on the Friday evening and entry is free.
On top of the Main Stage, there will be music and comedy in the Fringe Tent, and a third music marquee this year which will see Split welcome the Sunderland Folk Festival.
After the success of last years Food Tent, which saw local companies serve up tasty treats from all over the globe, organisers are doubling the size of the food marquee and adding a bar.
Split 2012 will also be the highlight event of Sunderland University Freshers Programme and new intake students purchasing a full freshers fortnight wristband will also gain entry to Split.
Early bird tickets are on sale priced at £40 for a weekend ticket, and £25 for a day ticket. To buy tickets, click here.
