Glastonbury Festival has revealed the Dance Village area is to get a new look. Now named 'Silver Hayes', the new area will include one giant supertent, 'Sonic', for dance-oriented headliners, the 'Wow Stage' for underground breakers and the 'Gully' - a brand new installation combining an open air stage and "a pulsating street of sound systems and stalls featuring the best new DJs, MCs and live music."
Festival Organiser Emily Eavis said, "I've always thought that the closest parallel with Glastonbury is Notting Hill Carnival, and the buzz around this rebirth is exactly what we were looking for, both musically and visually. There's going to be a lot of incredible music from all around the world."
Silver Hayes takes its name from one of the oldest meadows on Worthy Farm, soon to be filled with the best new musical discoveries of 2013. Nas and other bill toppers will play in the new Sonic supertent (7,000 capacity), of course the full line-up for the other stages and sound systems will be revealed in April when the whole Festival line-up will be revealed.
Farmer Michael Eavis added, "Malcolm (Haynes, Dance Village Co-Ordinator) turned up with an after hours rave truck in the 1980s and he's been going hard at it ever since. Now he's conjured up a new vision for one of the most beautiful areas of the farm, which will be brilliant."
The Dance area's new look includes structures moving around in the field to give it a fresh look. East and West dance tents will be combined into one, a new super stage made from five saddle span tents. This new stage will play host to some of the biggest names in dance music. It will have a capacity of around 7,000 people and will have such great sight lines that at least the same amount of people again, will have a clear view of the stage from the outside of the tent.
The Pussy Parlure Spiegel tent will be replaced with a new venue, La Pussy Parlure Nouveau which will also be in a new position. This will have a magical and fantasy style décor and feature live dance acts and DJs from across the planet.
The Wow Stage will continue, although in a different position, fresh look and will once again feature the best in underground club acts. There will also be a daytime amphitheatre at the front of the tent.
It's been a few years since we had a reggae tent in the field, so we are creating a new area called Gully ('gully' is Jamaican slang word referring to the areas around the storm runoff drains in Kingston, Jamaica). Gully will have a large open-air stage and a sound system street area called The Blues with DJs, MCs and sound systems. This dual area will have a capacity of around 8,000 people and will feature live acts playing roots, dancehall, reggae, ska and dub, as well as African music. It will be an impressive sight with purpose built sets, both stalls given a downtown West Indian feeling.
The Light cubes will stay, distributed around the whole field to complement the new super tent and the Gully.
The area will also be continuing nightly with the Heads Party headphone disco, with new headphones that now have three channels and colored flashing displays.
The Friday night headliner looks likely to be Arctic Monkeys, Saturday will probably be topped by The Rolling Stones, although things still currently suggest that they have still not firmly agreed to play. eFestivals understands that the Festival is happy to wait for their decision, and already have a back-up plan - another act - in place just in case Jagger & co say 'no'.
There's still intense speculation about who the Sunday headliner might be, with all sorts of names being talked about.

Glastonbury Festival takes place across over a 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset and, as ever, includes a free programme. Once again, the Festival will be raising funds for Oxfam, Wateraid, Greenpeace and a host of local charities and causes (in 2011, more than £2m was raised).
A further release of a limited number of cancelled tickets will happen on Sunday 21st April 2013, for those who have registered beforehand so that they are eligible to buy a ticket.
