Shangri-La, part of the late night South East 'naughty corner' of Glastonbury Festival have revealed, (here), more information and a little video to get people in the mood and introduce the 2013 concept as it transforms with a new series of shows, a new set, new venues and and a new theme 'Shangri-la Afterlife'.
Creative Director Debs Armstrong explained, "We turn the entire field into a living breathing film-set populated with characters, creations and ultimately, the audience."
The Shangri-La team produce a narrative and set that develops each year of the Festival, and inviting Festivalgoers to involve themselves in the overarching plot of their experiential surroundings. 2008-2011 saw the rise and fall of a Blade Runner style pleasure city, the story leading towards 2011's epic pre-apocalyptic show. 2012 may have been a year off for Glastonbury but the Shangri-La story continued, concluding they revealed in a Mayan-predicted total apocalypse. 2013 will see Shangri-la return with an all new creative theme for the next 4 year series of its story; 'The Afterlife'.
Shangri-La, have released the following short introduction film:
This year once Festivalgoers enter the Shangri-la Afterlife there's no saying what their fate might hold. They could stumble across a secret headline performance at the epic open air 'Hell Stage', blag their way into Heaven to drink divine cocktails in the 'Garden of Eaden', rub shoulders with a pole dancing angel in 'The Temple of the Blessed Snakepit' or wander wide eyed through the winding alleys of the 'Seven Circles of Hell'. The choice of delectably perverse and exquisite experiences is limitless in the sh-Afterlife.
Here's a quick guide to a few of those new venues:
The Hell Stage
A circle built of black gothic shards and brimmed with raging flames, the best of The Hub and Club Dada's epic programming and the worst of hell-fire damnation combine to create their new Hell Stage arena.
This is the place for whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters and those who have swamped festival culture in corporate hypocrisy All shall have their part in the rave which burneth with fire and brimstone, and they shall have no rest day nor night, they who worship the DJ.
The Seven Circles of Hell
Shangri-La's famous Alleys are redesigned this year around a Dante's Inferno journey through the seven circles of Hell, creating a maze of contemporary sins and punishments.
The souls inhabiting the Seven Circles of Hell are prone to acting out their sinful desires in open hedonistic displays throughout the alleys - and they have no qualms about forcefully including anyone within sight. In these alleys there is no law but perversity, and absolutely anything goes.
Heaven
Featuring The Waiting Rooms, The Heavenly Lounge, Temple of The Blessed Snake Pit and The Garden of Eaden
Shangri-La Heaven is a 'higher place', top of the hierarchy of desirable places but difficult to get into. It is as a paradise, especially in contrast to Hell.
Only the good go to heaven, but how do you get through those pearly gates? You can't... through 'The Waiting Room' officious Admin Angels will process you at 'The Desk of Judgment'. These angels and their precious gold wristbands may be elusive, so maybe you can try to win, buy, blag or con your way in...
In keeping with Glastonbury's famed clandestine style, much of the line-up for what's on here is kept strictly under wraps, late night festival legends Continental Drifts promise to deliver an eclectic array of celestial live acts and DJs throughout the weekend.
