Ahead of this Sunday's re-sale of tickets for Glastonbury Festival, the line-up of activities and fun has been announced for the Green Kids Field.
The Green Kids Area is sited at the back half of the Greenpeace Field and will be open from 8am till 9pm each day at Glastonbury 2013. It is an independent area, run directly by the Green Fields. Their theme this year is Oak Trees, Art, Science and Magic, and will be focusing on the tree life, magical woodland creatures, and more.
All activities in the Green Kids Field are FREE of charge. The area includes a children's Performance Marquee, a children's Art and Craft Marquee (see the notice boards for specific times of workshops), and smaller craft tents and many outside activities. Banana Fish Crafts will be providing magical landscapes as backdrops to the area.
The area offers little ones activities and events to amuse and entertain them, plus a café and picnic area provided by Cat In The Hat.
Jos, of the Green Kids Team, said, "I am most excited about several new things we have never had before we are going to attempt to Split the Atom (Hydrogen, that is). (We have) Science and Fun workshops open to all presented by 'Splash Bang Wallop' who are coming to us all the way from the Edinburgh International Science Festival. We also thought in these days of internationalism that we should all learn Welsh so the wonderful Dynamix troupe are going to be offering Welsh speaking workshops each day. Also new is lovely Steve Collins with his staff spinning workshops; and Steely Dan with steel drum bonanzas."
Other activities in the Green Kids Field this year include The Book Club; Mr Brown's Pig and his delightful suitcase full of puppets, characters and unexpected events. Plus a new show offering kids of all ages a chance to 'Enter the Dark and Secret Underwater World of Mr. Pineapple Head'.
There will also be a full array of DJ workshops equipped with gadgets and gismos, plus songwriting, rap and poetry, storytelling and music performances and singalongs with Mall Webb.
Plus plenty of walkabouts, drama, shows, tree art, making things, and Camera Obscura!
In the Games arena there will be board games, jumping games, sock wrestling, circus skills, and each morning in the Performance marquee begins with Gymnastics, and Tai Chi for Kids. This year there's also a horizontal climbing wall that all ages and abilities can have a go on.
Regular Festivalgoers will be aware that the centre piece of this area is the full sized ship climbing frame and this year there's a new ship docked in the Green Kids Area - 'The Cadmus', based on the design for an ancient Ark. It will be crewed from 8am to 9pm each day, and can only be used during these times. Between 8am and 7pm each day the Cadmus is for the use of five to 14 year olds only, from 7pm to 9pm it's for 14 to 17 year olds and adults. Organisers reveal that the views around the site you get from the top deck are worth the climb.
Parents are responsible for their children at all times during the Festival. However, beside the Ark at the top of the field is a Lost Kids Tent where staff can provide help for any child who is lost, or for any adult who has lost a child. The tent will be open from 9am till 6pm. At other times, simply find a steward who can direct you to the 24-hour on site lost kids/welfare system. The Lost Kids tent can also be used as a first port of call by any families for any medical, emergency or other on site problem. It's worth showing your kids where this tent is at the earliest opportunity, so if they become lost they have a port of call to return to find you at.
The Green Kids Area also has a Toddler enclosed space for the very little ones aged 0 5 years. This area includes a sandpit, little teepees, soft toys, games, stories and a shady space for resting and quiet times, and is located next to the Cat In The Hat Café.
For those bringing kids, remember there's also the main Kidz Field that's a huge kids' festival within the Festival featuring top names from the world of children's entertainment and loads of activities - from a knee trembling helter skelter to colourful softplay - for kids of all ages. Expect more information including the acts for this area to be announced soon.
