Transmission 007: sees Manchester's symphony orchestra, the Halle, headline on Saturday 31st August with a concert inspired by the stars, including Jupiter and Mars from Holst's The Planets, classics from Strauss, Mozart and John Williams, as well as a selection of out-of-this-world film music from blockbusters such as: Star Wars, Independence Day, E.T., Apollo 13, Close Encounters and more.

The concert will also give participants a very special opportunity to celebrate the life and work of the late Sir Bernard Lovell, Founder and first Director of the Jodrell Bank Observatory. Sir Bernard, who passed away in 2012, would have celebrated his 100th birthday on the day of the concert.

Teresa Anderson, Director of the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, said, "Sir Bernard was a long-time supporter and follower of the Hallé, often travelling into Manchester from his home near Jodrell Bank to attend concerts. We know that he would be delighted in the conjunction of Science and Music that is taking place in the shadow of the telescope he created.

Conductor Stephen Bell commented, "It will be a huge pleasure to conduct the magnificent Hallé in such a brilliant and unique setting as Jodrell Bank. We'll play some of the most exciting music there is, and nothing beats hearing a world-class symphony orchestra playing at the top of their game. It will be an unforgettable evening!"

The Proms will also offer a wide range of artisan food and drink. High end, bespoke picnic hampers will be available to order in advance courtesy of Just Picnics, and there will be many stalls selling organic and locally sourced products. Pimms, Prosecco, fine wines and a selection of handpicked real ales will be available as well as teas and traditional lemonades.

Closing proceedings will be a dazzling firework display as the Jodrell Bank skyline is illuminated with colour. This finale will see the Lovell telescope transformed into a spectacular backdrop for the final time in the 2013 Live From Jodrell Bank series. In July The Australian Pink Floyd will perform 'A celebration of the 40th anniversary of The Dark Side of The Moon' followed by a one off event curated by New Order supported by the likes of Johnny Marr and The Whip. The show preceding the Hallé's will be headlined by Sigur Rós.

As well as providing an amazing backdrop the telescope will also be serving a secondary purpose as the worlds most incredible projection screen! Throughout the day there will be experiments and workshops along with free access to the visitor centre – and in the evening the acts will perform. Jodrell Bank is brought to you by the creative minds behind Kendal Calling festival, The Warehouse Project and Ear To The Ground.

Full access to the magnificent Discovery centre is included with each ticket, and offers a chance to find out more about the mind-blowing research happening at Jodrell Bank.
