Glastonbury Festival headliners Mumford & Sons have cancelled all their shows this week after their bassist, Ted Dwane, was hospitalised for emergency surgery to treat a blood clot on his brain.

The band have cancelled three American dates this week in Dallas yesterday, Woodlands today and New Orleans tomorrow, and said they will reschedule these dates when possible.

Some people are reporting that their appearance at Glastonbury is in doubt, however the band have announced they have no plans to cancel or postpone any other appearances on its current 'Summer Stampede' tour of North America or their festival appearances at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee, this weekend on Saturday, Glastonbury itself the following Sunday, 30th June, and T in the Park next month.

Mumford & Sons statement (here) says,

"To our fans -

Our friend and bandmate Ted has been feeling unwell for a few days, and yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment. The scans revealed a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation. Ted is receiving excellent care and we are being assured that he will recover quickly from surgery.

Sadly we have to postpone three upcoming headline shows planned for this week in Dallas on Tuesday 6/11, Woodlands on Wednesday 6/12, and New Orleans on Thursday 6/13. All dates will be rescheduled and will be announced as soon as we can; all tickets for this week’s events will be honoured at their rescheduled dates. We have no plans to cancel or postpone any other appearances along this current tour.

We're all wishing Ted a speedy recovery.
Much love,
Mumford & Sons"

With just a fortnight to go until Glastonbury Festival's gates open most of the extensive line-up across more than 50 stages has been announced, as well as music there's theatre, circus, comedy, speakers, special guests, films, installations, and campaigners who will be keeping Festival goers entertained over the five full days from Wednesday 26th June until Monday 1st July 2013 across a 1000 hectares (2470 acres) of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Somerset.

Glastonbury had previous problems with a headliners medical issues in 2010 when U2, the headliners for the Friday night, had to cancel due to Bono having emergency surgery for a compressed sciatic nerve. Glastonbury organisers are sure to be looking at possible stand-ins, should the worst come to the worst and the band are unable to appear.

In other Glastonbury news The Gyuto monks of Tibet have confirmed on their website that they will return to the UK for the first time in 40 years to perform at this year's Festival in the Greenfields to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tibetan Declaration of Independence, and the monks will also build a symbolic picture of the universe out of coloured sand. The throat singing monks have recently recorded an album in their Himalayan monstery called 'Chants: The Spirit of Tibet'.

Tickets were priced at £205, and have sold out.
