The anti-touting registration system employed since 2007 by Glastonbury Festival is set to be adopted by the Ryder Cup, including registering, and providing a photograph as proof of identity, something which organisers say is "vital" in preventing fraud.

In an article in the the Scottish newspaper, The Courier, (here), organisers reveal their 10-point plan as part of extensive efforts to prevent fraud and inflated ticket prices.

The Ryder Cup has seen touting scum inflate the price of tickets for the biennial men's golf competition from £430 to around £1,500 including booking fee. Like Glastonbury demand for tickets will far outstrip supply, so several methods have been adopted to stop touting.

Those hoping to watch the Gleneagles competition next year, must complete a two-part registration process and provide a photograph as proof of identity. A Ryder Cup spokesman is quoted as saying, "There will be 10 distinct measures in place to prevent ticket fraud and transfer. The most significant of these is the inclusion on all general admission tickets of the purchaser's photograph. This will be checked at the course and is the single most effective measure available in the prevention of fraud and black market sales. Other measures include unique watermarks and barcodes."

Just like Glastonbury Festival these measures are being deployed to help to cut the number of tickets being sold on for extortionate prices, and Glastonbury Festival's track record has proved that these methods work.

The spokesmen added, "It is therefore a proven method and is becoming increasingly common at major events. While we appreciate some extra effort is required, by including photographic registration we know that only eligible applicants will be included in the ticket allocation process."

Registration to be able to buy tickets for Glastonbury 2014 which will take place at a farm in Pilton, Somerset over five full days from Wednesday 25th until Sunday 29th June 2014 is now open. Everyone who plans to the come the Festival must register, and that includes children aged 13, 14 and 15.
