Martin Carthy will headline BAMfest - Bedale Acoustic Music Festival a new acoustic music festival set to take place from from Friday 30th May 30 until Sunday 1st June in Bedale, in North Yorkshire.
Martin, who has been centre stage in the UK folk scene for almost fifty years, will headline a concert during the Festival next May. The English folk singer and guitarist who has, since the early Sixties, been one of the most influential figures in British traditional music, inspiring contemporaries such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon and later artists such as Richard Thompson .
It was Carthy’s version of Scarborough Fair, released in 1965, that was picked up by Paul Simon and appeared on Simon and Garfunkel’s album 'Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme' in 1966 and became a huge worldwide hit.
“This is a real coup for BAMfest,” said spokesman John Knighton. “Martin Carthy is a top performer on the UK folk scene and we are thrilled he has agreed to play in Bedale.”
Carthy joins a bill that includes The Blues Band featuring Paul Jones (ex-Manfred Mann and current Radio 2 DJ), The Men They Couldn't Hang, The Young'uns, Jez Lowe, BabaJack, Dave Kelly, Duncan McFarlane Band, Pilgrims' Way, The Whiskey Dogs, The Conspirators, Wendy Arrowsmith, The John Richards Trio, The Goat Roper Rodeo Band, The Jon Palmer Acoustic Band, Sunjay Brayne, Mic & Susie Darling, John Knighton Blues Band, George Papavgeris, Keith Kendrick & Sylvia Needham, The Gerry McNeice Band, The Backyard Buskers, Bob & Gill Berry, OK Brandy, Merlin's Keep, Ribbon Road, Michelle Holding & Bonz, Kyle Frazer Alterego, Nick Brooker, Steve Chapman Smith, Amy Naylor, Keystone Acoustic, Shindig, Vacant Expressions, Honey Keepers, Trevor Appleton, Kim Ralls, StormCrow, Uketopians, Hornbeam Molly, Kelsey Main, and Ray Storr.
An early bird weekend ticket with camping is priced at £50, and a concessions weekend ticket for those aged 11-21 years is priced at £20. A Family Weekend Ticket (2 adults/2 concessions) is priced at £125.
Children aged 5-11 years can attend for free but must pay for camping. U5’s free. All U16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
People living in and around Bedale can get an extra £5 off the price of a weekend ticket up until December 31.
