Last night saw the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition Finals take place in Pilton with the shortlist of 8 acts performing ten minute showcases to compete for not just one but three prizes this year.
This year saw the PRS for Music Foundation partnering with the Emerging Talent Competition meaning that as well as winning a slot on one of the Festival's main stages, the winners of the competition were also awarded a £5,000 prize, and two runners-up were also awarded a £2,500 prize.
Festival founder Michael Eavis announced the overall winner was the Italian duo of Michele Ducci and Alessandro Degli Angioli aka M+A, with Cornwall 4 piece The Black Tambourines, and South West London songstress Izzy Bizu the well deserved runners-up.
Many of the acts who competed in last night's competition are likely to be be given the chance to perform on a stage somewhere at this summer's Glastonbury Festival.
This year's competition entrants were all musicians not signed to a major label, based in the UK and Ireland. The finalists had been selected by 40 music bloggers from thousands of entrants, and included terrific performances from Gibson Bull, Hero Fisher, Only Girl, FURS, and Pandr Eyez.
This year it looked likely from the moment that M + A finished their 10 minute set of percussion, vocals and samples that they were going to be a hard act to beat, with the final act The Black Tambourines coming close with their brand of Cornish surf noise, and competition opener 19 year old Izzy Bizu's vibrant voice proving another memorable performance on the night.
Glastonbury Festival has been running the competition to find the greatest Emerging Talent for the last seven Festivals. Previous competitions have brought bands like Bridie Jackson and The Arbour, Treetop Flyers, London Afrobeat Collective, Ellen and the Escapades, We Have Band, Golden Silvers, The Subways, Stornoway, and Scouting For Girls to Festival prominence.
eFestivals will have reviews and pictures of all the competing acts online shortly.
