Following last month's news that Germany's Rock Am Ring has moved 30 km from the old venue, the Nürburgring to a new home at Mendig Airfield (here) more news has been announced by the festival's replacement on the original site.
The new festival called Grune Holle (Green Hell) Festival will take place at the Nurburgring, organized by DEAG (Deutsche Entertainment AG) who earlier this year bought a controlling stake in the Kilimanjaro Group who runs Sonisphere, and their promoter Stuart Galbraith is part of the team running the new event.
DEAG signed a 5 year contract to be the new promoter of the festival site from 2015 onwards back in June but lost a recent court case with Rock Am Ring festival promoter Marek Lieberberg over use of the festival’s name at the new location other than its longtime home at the Nurburging racing track.
The two events are already being billed as the battle of Germany’s big rock festivals with fans waiting to hear who the new event has on the bill to line-up against Rock am Ring's headliners of Foo Fighters, Die Toten Hosen and Slipknot.
It looks like it's going to be a heavy summer in Germany, with the two camps squaring up to see who can run the most successful festival.
Originally Grune Holle was to happen over the same dates in June with both events happening only 20 miles apart, but has now been confirmed as happening over the last weekend in May from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st May 2015 at the Nurburgring in the Eifel mountains.
The line-up for the new event is being kept underwraps until the start of the advance booking period.
