Britpop legends Blur have announced their return to the live scene with a headlining appearance in London's Hyde Park at British Summer Time on Saturday 20th June.

Blur formed in 1988 and consists of singer/keyboardist Damon Albarn, guitarist/singer Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree. Coxon left Blur during the recording of their seventh album Think Tank in 2003 and the bland split up reforming in 2009 with live shows and appearances in Hyde Park, Glastonbury Festival, Oxegen, and T in the Park. Blur then headlined a show at Hyde Park for the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, and a year later performed at Rock Werchter in Belgium, the Spanish and Portuguese dates of the Primavera Sound Festival, and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States.

Today the band announce their return will coincide with a new studio release their first as a 4 piece since Think Tank 12 years ago. The band went to Hong Kong to record some album sessions and today's The Sun newspaper this morning published a story which includes album image art of the new album title 'The Magic Whip' with Chinese characters presumably enough material was put down to be released as this new neon 'ice cream cone' fronted album.

Jim King, Senior Vice President Live Events, said, "There are few things in life that are as brilliant and as quintessentially British as Blur playing an outdoor gig in London. With new material and the new and improved production at Hyde Park this show is set to be one of the best Blur shows of all time."

Alun Mainwaring, Head of Events at The Royal Parks, said, "We can’t wait to welcome Blur back to Hyde Park! A lot has changed since the band were last here and we are excited to see their reaction as they take to the Great Oak Stage in what will be their first appearance at BST Hyde Park."

As well as the huge ticketed headliners, the midweek activities will return with free access for park visitors to enjoy film, music, sport and literature.

Kylie, with Grace Jones, and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers appear on Sunday 21st. Friday 26th will have The Who, with Paul Weller, Kaiser Chiefs, and Johnny Marr.
