Last night saw the annual Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition Finals take place in Pilton with the shortlist of 8 acts performing ten minute showcases to compete for the three prizes on offer.
Festival founder Michael Eavis announced the overall winner was 16 year old Declan McKenna, with Shields and K.O.G & the Zongo Brigade the runners-up from a quality field of entrants.
The standard of the competing acts was high and it was also announced that all of the acts who competed in last night's competition will be given the chance to perform on a stage somewhere at this summer's Glastonbury Festival.
PRS for Music Foundation partnered with the Emerging Talent Competition again this year, which meant that as well as winning a slot on one of the Festival's main stages, the winners of the competition Declan was also awarded a £5,000 prize, and two runners-up were also awarded a £2,500 prize.
This year's competition entrants were all musicians not signed to a major label, based in the UK and Ireland. The finalists had been selected by 40 music bloggers from thousands of entrants, and also included performances from MoD, Princess Slayer, Lucy Kitchen, Isaac Lee-Kronick, and Jakl.
This year it took little time for the judges to make their decision, with Declan captivating the crowd with his football homage opener 'Brazil', and although understandably slightly nervous, the GCSE student continued to impress finishing the 2 song showcase of guitar, loops, and samples despite his headband having fallen over his eyes. Final act of the night Shields and competition openers K.O.G. and the Zongo Brigade also impressed with their performances.
Glastonbury Festival has been running the competition to find the greatest Emerging Talent for the last seven Festivals. Previous competitions have brought bands like M+A, Bridie Jackson and The Arbour, Treetop Flyers, London Afrobeat Collective, Ellen and the Escapades, We Have Band, Golden Silvers, The Subways, Stornoway, and Scouting For Girls to Festival prominence.
eFestivals will have reviews and pictures of all the competing acts online shortly.
Ticket re-sales will take place later this week over two separate days, and can only be booked by those who are registered, as part of the Festival's system to beat ticket touting.
Just like the main sale in October, those wanting to travel to the Festival by coach will get the first opportunity to book tickets. The all important resale for Ticket + Coach packages will be from 6pm on Thursday, 16th April.
That will be followed by a resale of General Admission tickets, at 9am on Sunday, 19th April.
General Admission Tickets cost £220 + £5 booking fee (with postage by Royal Mail Special Delivery charged at £7.50 per order).
For general admission it will be a maximum of 4 tickets per transaction, and for coaches a maximum of 2 tickets per transaction.
Please note that all tickets purchased in the resale must be paid for in full at the point of booking (there is no deposit scheme offered for resale). These tickets can be refunded up until 8th May, and cancellation protection is available at the point of purchase.
Registration does not reserve or guarantee you a ticket in the resale. Registration must be done before 5pm on Wednesday, 15th April 2015.
Online registration can be carried out by clicking here.
The only other acts confirmed so far are Friday headliner Foo Fighters, and Saturday headliner Kanye West, plus Father John Misty, Courtney Barnett, and Lionel Richie in the teatime legends slot. More acts are expected to be confirmed by the Festival on Wednesday, and eFestivals will bring you the news of who has been confirmed to appear then.
This year's sold out Glastonbury Festival runs for five full days from Wednesday 24th until Sunday 28th June 2015 across over a 1,000 acres of beautiful countryside at Worthy Farm, Pilton in Somerset.
Tickets are priced at £220 + £5 booking fee per ticket + postage per booking with up to a maximum of 6 tickets able to be booked at once.
As ever, entry includes a free programme. Once again, the Festival will be raising more than £2 million in funds for Oxfam, Wateraid, Greenpeace and and hundreds of other worthy causes, both local and international.
The full complete line-up will not be announced until next month. Expect something like 2,000 performances at over 100 venues including music, cabaret, theatre, circus, a fantastic Kidz area, poetry, green crafts and information, site art, decor, and loads, loads more ... much more than just the music, so make sure you check it all out!
As usual eFestivals will bring you the very best-sourced rumours, allowing festival-goers to see who is playing long before the bands are formally announced - keep your eyes on the Glastonbury 2015 rumours, updated as we receive information.
