The eight finalists have been revealed for the showcase final of the Purbeck Folk Festival talent competition over the weekend of Thursday 25th until Sunday 28th August 2016.
An annual fixture at the festival held at Purbeck Valley Farm, near Swanage, Purbeck Rising offers an opportunity for new acts to play at the family festival with a main stage slot on the Saturday afternoon. The remaining acts are Nicole McNally, Jack Pratchett, Jonny Phillips, Fountainhead, and Mikey Ball. Plus a further three acts have been added to the final from a special Purbeck Rising fast track event held earlier this month.
These three new acts are Dave Stoker, Matt Underdown, and Delphis. Started in response to the hundreds of applications received from bands and artists wanting to play the festival, Purbeck Rising offers an opportunity for new acts to play at the family festival with a main stage slot, a day’s studio recording and much more up for grabs.
Festival organiser Catherine Burke said, "Purbeck Rising is a great opportunity for bands to get involved in the festival. It’s not just for local bands - we've had entrants from across Europe. And although it’s a great chance for up and coming young bands to get noticed, we don’t discriminate with age - one of our finalists last year was a cappella group 'No Direction' which is a four-piece with members much closer to pension than pocket money."
They will be joined on the bill by Nizlopi, Recreations, Eliza Carthy, The Wayward Band, The Proclaimers, Sheelanagig, Lucy Ward, The Undercover Hippy, Maz O'Connor, Kadia, Djambo, Thirstyman, Krista Green, Rod Jenkins, Latin Quarter, Boo Hewerdine, Catherine Burke, Pete Christie, Glenn Ross, Wareham Whalers, Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts, Holy Moly & the Crackers, Cate Ferris, Threepenny Bit, Alex Roberts, Quinns Quinney, Wikkaman, The Model Folk, Ian Brown, Kathryn Roberts And Sean Lakeman, Rory McLeod & the Familiar Strangers, The Hot Seats, and Cardboard Fox.
Now in its eighth year, Purbeck Folk Festival’s line-up offers an eclectic mix of original young folk, established roots, traditional and world music in a family-friendly environment. The four stages are contained in the farm’s barns and a marquee venue that hosts the Purbeck Rising final and open mic sessions.
Weekend tickets (Fri-Sun) include free camping and are on sale now priced at £100, a youth (aged 12 to 17 years) ticket is priced at £50, and child over three years of age ticket is priced at £20.
