Boardmasters 2017
Wednesday 9th to Sunday 13th August 2017Watergate Bay, Newquay, Cornwall, TR8 4AN, England MAP
5 days £184 - sold out (day tickets still available)
With less than a month to go until Boardmasters takes place over five days from Wednesday 9th to Sunday 13th August 2017 at a cliff-top location overlooking Watergate Bay, and Fistral Beach, in Newquay, Cornwall, the festival has announced "a huge new area and hedonistic simulation" called 'The Underworld', produced by The Masked Ball's Alec Short and Kelvin Batt.
Described as "a time trip through tunnels to long lost iconic clubs and the legendary parties that took place within their walls", there's representations of a hard-bop prohibition era boogie-woogie club from 1930s Detroit, 'The Blind Pig', Bristol's 1960s 'Bamboo Club' for reggae and dub, the 1970s New York disco scene with 'Coney Island', and for hip hop, funk, post punk and early rap there's '1520 Sedgwick Ave' as a nod to the legendary 1970s building in The Bronx where those genres came to life.
There's an eclectic mix of performers, with The Ivy Drip and The Lillettes in The Blind Pig, The Downbeat Melody Soundsystem in the Bamboo Club, Ere Wax and Russian Kay in Coney Island, and 45 Live, a collective of DJs from across Europe and the USA in 1520 Sedgwick Ave. It's open from 4pm until 1am each day, apart from Sunday when the area will open at 3pm for The Alternative Sunday Service hosted by Reverend Michael Alabama Jackson and The Hail Mary's.
This joins the previously announced acts which include headliners Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiroquai, and Alt-J as well as Jake Bugg, Laura Mvula, Slaves, Roger Sanchez, Solado, Wild Beasts, High Contrast, TDQ, Newton Falkner, and many more. Please see the line-up page for the details so far including the day splits.
Boardmasters is held on two sites near Newquay offering action sports including surf, skate, bmx, plus daily live music acts on the stunning headland of Watergate Bay.
