The test of endurance has begun. We'll sleep little, hurt our livers and walk miles on jaded limbs. It's the last weekend of June and after a two year break, we are back at Worthy Farm for another Glastonbury.
Talk at the monstrously well attended eFestivals meet was of secret acts, must-sees and who has the best hat. Punters have had epic and yet positive journeys into the fields. Some who have caught the train grumble about the wait times at Castle Cary station but these woes can soon be forgotten. Most have been able to navigate the logistics with functional ease.
Wednesday is the day to get your bearings. It's been two years since we've been here after all. New additions nestle alongside the tried and tested. Up in Silver Hayes, areas that are yet to open, taped off to the general public, look beautiful. The Greenpeace fields, dominated by a tree laden with white tissue, shimmer in anticipation.
It's steaming - sun cream is liberally doused and people crouch under structures to get the best shade that they can. The forecasts are that it's going to get warmer but, after a precipitous start to this summer, nobody minds a bit of warmth.
As darkness descends, we gather on the south side of the fields and on vantage points on the railway line for the fireworks that brighten up the night sky. They officially herald the beginning of Glastonbury 2019. The mother of all festivals has well and truly begun.
