Paul McCartney has been on BBC Radio 2's Zoe Ball’s Breakfast show this morning, and the beeb have just kindly sent us the transcript. Amongst what is said, Zoe asks him about the possibility of playing Glastonbury Festival.
To cut to the important part....
ZB: This year is the 50th anniversary of Abbey Road, next year Glastonbury’s 50th birthday. Now, what would be the chances of getting you there to perform? You know the people want it. I mean there’s lots of chat at this point - people are getting very excited about that, is it a possibility?
PM: You know, I don’t know, I mean people are saying that it would be good if I did it, so I’m starting to think about whether I can or whether it would be a good thing. My kids are saying “Dad we’ve got to talk about Glastonbury” and I think I know what they mean. So they go every year, like a lot of people these days, and it is a great festival and we played there quite a long time ago so, maybe it is time to go back, I don’t know, I’d have to put a few things in place and try and do that but it’s starting to become some sort of remote possibility. (ZB: fingers crossed) I mean it’s definitely not fixed yet but people are starting to talk about it.
Glastonbury supremo Michael Eavis was seen on camera in the spring suggesting McCartney would be at the farm next year, although eFestivals were told a few weeks later by an exceedingly well-placed festival source that it definitely wasn't on the cards for next year - and we're sticking with what we were told.
