Stornaway and Josh Pugh among great additions to packed Moseley Folk Fest 2023

Moseley Folk and Arts Festival (Friday 1 to Sunday 3 September 2023) has added even more artists to this year's line-up.

 

With ticket sales already at a record breaking peak, among the latest additions to the long-running Birmingham festival are Stornoway (Sunday), rising comedy star Josh Pugh (Sunday), and award-winning singer-songwriter Scott Matthews (Saturday).

 

Hailing from Oxfordshire, Stornoway made a big impact with their debut single, Zorbing, in 2009/2010. One of the stand-out artists at 2011’s Moseley Folk, they released three successful albums before initially pausing in 2017 – but reformed last year to great acclaim.

 

Warwickshire comedian Josh Pugh is on the verge of a major breakthrough. Nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award 2022, he’s played sold-out shows at Birmingham Town Hall and The Glee Club, opened for Ricky Gervais, and appeared on such TV fare as The Last Leg, Hypothetical and Mock The Week. For his Moseley appearance he’ll be joined by Birmingham Comedy Festival Breaking Talent Award 2022 winner, Hannah Weetman.

 

Ivor Novello-winning Black Country songwriter Scott Matthews has a fanbase that includes Robert Plant, Vashti Bunyan and members of Radiohead. His latest album, Restless Lullabies (out 28 April) sees him revisit songs from 2020’s electronic New Skin, representing them in an acoustic setting.

 

The festival is also welcoming broadcaster and musician Mark Radcliffe (Saturday), while spoken word festival Verve hosts appearances from Bohdan Piaseckiand Birmingham’s Poet Laureate Jasmine Gardosi (Saturday and Sunday).

 

Further musical additions include songwriter/musician Rozi Plain (Saturday), who has just released her fifth album, Prize (which features a guest appearance from This Is The Kit); Americana duo My Darling Clementine, Malawi's Madalitso Band and Louie Miles, the first recipient of the festival's Janice Long Bursary (Friday); The Magic Numbers' Michele Stodart, Ezio, Ireland's The Armagh

Rhymers and Vinny Peculiar (Saturday); and English folk trio Granny's Attic (Sunday).

 

These join the previously announced headliners Squeeze, Graham Nash, Gwenno and Blindboy (Friday); The Saw Doctors and comedian Lou Sanders (Saturday); and Wilco, The Proclaimers and Old Time Sailors (Sunday).
