TGE CONFERENCE DELEGATE PASSES
Thursday 6th April - The Great Escape, the festival for new music, has today announced more information about its acclaimed industry conference including the launch of 2023’s Elevate Programme, the innovative accelerator for early-career music business professionals and artists, as well as details about the series of panels presented by TGE’s industry partners. The Elevate Programme is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Leading experts from across the music business will also be taking an in-depth look at music education, the fast-evolving deals landscape, and the creator economy as part of a four-day conference running from 10 - 13 May 2023 at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Brighton Waterfront – with numerous new speakers just added to the line-up.
MENTAL HEALTH FOCUS INCLUDED IN PARTNER PANELS PROGRAMME
Saturday’s conference will also see a dedicated strand exploring the unique challenges and stressors of working in the live music business. Led by Tamsin Embleton of the Music Industry Therapist Collective, the Saturday morning strand will feature practical strategies for industry professionals in the live sector to create healthier, happier touring environments.
Building off the landmark publication Touring & Mental Health: The Music Industry Manual, which brings together clinical expertise and vivid touring anecdotes from artists and touring professionals, these sessions will help contextualise how artists, agents, managers, promoters, venue and festival staff and other live music professionals can put the book’s advice into action.
Rory Bett, CEO of Mama Festivals, says “The music business is placing an increasing emphasis on mental health, and the challenges for artists and their teams on the road can be really demanding. Touring & Mental Health: The Music Industry Manual is a great resource for everyone in the live music business so I am proud to welcome the MITC team to The Great Escape to help highlight this important topic.”
Radiohead’s Philip Selway, who is a longtime supporter of the Music Industry Therapist Collective, says “Workshops like this equipped me with the tools and awareness to feel more confident in reaching out to those who may be struggling with their mental health in the industry, and can really help us all navigate the darker moments and the bumps in the road out on tour.”
MORE SPEAKERS FOR THE CORE CONFERENCE STRANDS
The core conference speaker line-up continues to grow, with yet more leading industry experts confirmed to speak across the full-day strands presented by CMU. Those strands are Music + Education (Wed 10 May), Music + Deals (Thu 11 May), and Music + The Creator Economy, sponsored by Songkick (Fri 12 May).
The full list of confirmed speakers can be found on the TGE website here.
ELEVATE PROGRAMME
This year’s Elevate Programme is the fourth iteration of the innovative music business career accelerator delivered by CMU and The Great Escape, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
With a particular focus on helping people from non-traditional backgrounds thrive in the music business, the 2023 intake will see a new cohort of 40 “super delegates” nominated by organisations across the industry, who will take advantage of the insights, knowledge and networking opportunities offered by The Great Escape.
These Elevate Super Delegates will have a unique opportunity to build robust professional networks by connecting with each other, industry mentors and the wider music industry via a personally tailored conference programme. In addition, all participants will have opportunities to connect with the wider Elevate Alumni community.
As in previous years, the Elevate Programme will also include a specially curated all-day conference strand on Saturday 13 May presenting panels, interviews and workshops addressing the challenges and needs of early-stage artists, industry practitioners and music entrepreneurs.
INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES
Presented by the UK government’s Department For Business And Trade, International Speed Networking sessions will offer delegates the opportunity to schedule meetings with influential festival bookers, live agents, music supervisors, digital pressing (NFT) platforms, promoters and more - many of whom have travelled from around the world specifically to speak to UK artists and businesses at The Great Escape. There will be two sessions taking place on the mezzanine at the Leonardo Royal Hotel with each session split into smaller 10-minute slots from 11am – 1pm on Thursday and Friday. More information on speed meetings can be found on the TGE website here.
