Held as an event in its own right before the Summer Sundae Weekender held at De Montfort Hall, Leicester, this year's Summer Sundae Fringe Festival is going to be even bigger than previous years. As well as the usual shows on the Thursday night before the main festival, the Fringe event now in its fourth year is putting together a two week programme of events that will showcase music and arts from Leicester. The Fringe runs from the launch party on Friday 31st July until Thursday 13th August 2009.

The Fringe organisers hold the Thursday 13th August night shows as normal, with local promoters and venues organising the events for the two weeks before. The Fringe includes live events, exhibitions, open studio, and other creative performances that feature musicians and artists from Leicester. To get the festival going Cuttlefish is organising an audiovisual 'launch party' on Friday 31st July.

Jersey Budd is to headline the Thursday. The Heroes, Fists, Autohype, Minnaars and Maybeshewill are also confirmed for the final night which takes place around various venues in the city on Thursday 13th April, a day before the Summer Sundae Weekender begins. Happening across 9 venues this year incorporating live music from the regions finest acts, a comedy venue curated by the Leicester Comedy Festival and a poetry and spoken word venue curated by Phrased and Confused. The Fringe Thursday events are run to raise funds annually for LOROS, the Leicestershire Hospice Charity.

Tickets to Fringe Thursday are priced at £4 which includes transport between venues on open top buses provided by Reach Marketing.

There is no camping available for this event, although there are plenty of places to stay in and around Leicester. On the final night of the event, Summer Sundae Weekender festival goers are able to pitch their tents at the festival site, and then catch an open top which travels around the various venues.
