WOMAD stands for World of Music, Arts and Dance, bringing together many forms of music, arts and dance from countries and cultures around the world.
The festival is moving to Charlton Park, near Malmesbury in Wiltshire for 2007, after being based at Rivermead, Reading since 1990. The new site is around 50% larger than the old Reading site - but the number of people attending will be similar - and it should be a fantastic new home for WOMAD.
Acts confirmed so far include Asian Dub Foundation, Baaba Maal, Bill Cobham, Sam Tshabalala, Steel Pulse, and The Dhol Foundation - click here for the full confirmed list (to date). More acts will be confirmed over the coming months.
Tickets are on sale, priced at £120. Camping from Friday to Monday is included in the ticket price - if you wish to camp on the Thursday there's an extra charge of £10. Click here to buy.
WOMAD festivals are held all over the world, and allow audiences to gain an insight into cultures other than their own through the enjoyment of music. WOMAD aims to excite, to inform, and to create awareness of the worth and potential of a multicultural society. It has a friendly and family-safe atmosphere, as well as fantastic music from all around the globe.
The festival presents over 100 artists from across the world, on a number of open and covered stages. There's also a full programme of adult and childrens workshops (limited spaces available - turn up early!), the cabaret tent, comedy, DJ sessions and live performance in the late night 'CLUB WOMAD', as well the normal festie fodder, and a huge market of world crafts.
More information will be here when available.
