Put together by Rob da Bank and long-running club Sunday Best, Bestival started on the Isle of Wight and grew in size from its small beginnings in 2004 to become one of the major events of the summer. As well as the music, Bestival has the world's biggest fancy dress party plus cocktail bars, laughter clubs, a farmers market, kids area, Morris dancing, magical moments and more, and is one of the most colourful events on the festival calendar.
In 2008, the same team launched a smaller sister festival in Dorset, called Camp Bestival, aimed more at families.
In 2015 Bestival launched a Canadian edition, and that same year Rob Da Bank's Common People also began.
After nearly 15 years the event moved in 2017 to Lulworth Castle, set against the backdrop of England's dramatic Jurassic coastline in Dorset.
From 2018 it moved date, from September to the first weekend in August.
in 2018 bestival went into administration.
